Why do people go out to eat at a restaurant on Thanksgiving?
I am sure that there are a lot of different reasons. I was brought up in a family where it is unheard of to go out to eat on holidays like Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter, etc. However, I know that every family has different traditions and circumstances so I was just wondering what yours are.
So, do you go out to eat on Thanksgiving or have dinner at home (or someone else's home. lol)?
We do not go out to eat on thanksgiving ..We sit with our family and have a wonderful meal over their house.
Mother to Hannah 6,Cynthia 5,Russell 3,Adam 4month

I wanted to go out to eat this year but its expensive, I get tired of cooking the whole meal and serving it and by the time I get to sit down to eat its all cold or everyone else is already done eating. Its just me and SO and 2 kids so its pretty boring here and I get NO help, THEN I have to do all the cleanup afterwards. JUST once id love to relax and not do anything but enjoy my meal.

SO and I were at it this month trying to decide whos family to spend Thanksgiving with... Its mine! bc SO's family decided to go to Cracker Barrel. We will meet them there later in the day but we are going to have a homemade Thanksgiving the way *I* think it should be first with my family. So its kinda of his, too, if we make it out there for CB.
wow..that kinda sucks..What are you planning to do?
I see more single people or people with no familes go out to eat..but for some families, its a tradition to go out in eat!

Perhaps the family member hosting it got sick the night before and cancelled...............
That is what happened to me today.
I go to my parents house or mil's,where ever I get invited,lol..I have never made Thanksgiving dinner,I'm sure I will one day.I went to a resturant 1 year for T-day w/an ex boyfriend-worst T-day EVER!!! I will never do that again!!
We have gone to a buffet style restaurant (Ryan's) every year since my parents got a divorce (I was 10).
I started doing T-Day on my own when I moved out but some years we go to Ryan's instead. This year we are going to grandma's.

Because i didnt want to cook just for 3 ppl ..... was WAY cheaper to.

Four years ago, DH and I were renting a tiny house with our DD, who was 2. My mom was without anywhere to go on Thanksgiving and I didn't/couldn't cook in that kitchen, let alone have anywhere for us to sit (no kitchen table, we always sat on the couch). My MIL had my SIL and her two teenage girls living with her and the SIL was cooking dinner there with her boyfriend and his kid. We weren't invited to MIL's house for Thanksgiving and we decided that we would take my mom out to dinner that day. We had a great dinner at Cracker Barrel.
My family (me, hubs, son) orders Chinese food for Thanksgiving. We do every year. It's just what we do. Some people get into the whole big cooking the huge meal and stuff. Some of us don't. We started having Chinese for Thanksgiving, around 10 years ago.
ETA: we started doing this because years ago, my husband usually had to work holidays.
