Well my local paper just released the yearly pay of the teachers. I must say I am veryappalled. My school district has the highest paid teachers and yet they have the highest drop out rate and the highest teen pregnancy rate. The have more days out than anyone I know.

I am not a fan of the payment of teachers currently I think any other job in the free world pay is based on results except that one, that bothers me.  There is no motivation to do better!

I'm a teacher.  I didn't look at your link because it doesn't really matter to me what the number is.

Teaching is not the only career that is not merit-based.  It's also one that is impossible to objectively measure.

I earned my degrees, and I earn my salary.  If you would like my salary, become a teacher!

I want to edit this to add:  I teach at a Title I school.  And while there are some parents (like you), who care about the progress of the school and their own child's success, there are many many more who couldn't give a shit, who have to be BRIBED to show up at the school just to enroll the kid, and who actually tell their kids at 16 it's time to drop out and get a job.

I've sat in parent conferences and heard these mothers and fathers tell their kids they don't care anymore, that they are washing their hands of them.  Oh, and then there are the crackhead parents who show up because the police have arrested their child.

I can preach to these kids every day the importance of a high school diploma and the consequences of being sexually active at their age (and I do), but really, if I'm not backed up at home...I'm not very successful.

So...I'm trying, but overall, we're still a failing school, and it's proven to be a result of lack of community involvement.  You cut my salary, I will quit and find another district that will compensate me for my efforts.  And good luck finding someone qualified to take my place for the lower compensation.  Especially in the school I'm in.

Oh I know that there are some good teachers out there. I am just saying the teachers in my district are getting paid way too much money!

I have no idea where you live, but I don't find these numbers at all appalling. What does bother me is the salary of athletes and entertainment figures, not those who dedicate their lives to teaching our youth.

I didn't think teachers got paid that much

Teachers can only do so much.

PARENTS NEED TO TEACH TOO.

I would attribute high drop out rates and teen pregnancies more to parenting then teachers.  Uninvolved parents bread uninvolved children- many times.  Not all of course.

By the way, what the hell. It just has a list of every teacher and their salary? yeah cause I would want my yearly salary up on the internet for everyone to see.
