Is it ok? Baby question

I have a 4 month old, but shes developmentally on a 1 month old standard (she was born 12 weeks early) She sleeps in her bouncer because she has severe reflux and has to stay sitting up for the most part. My question is she like to sleep on her side, and will actually wiggle and squirm until she gets on her side, and then goes to sleep, is this ok? If its not how can i encorage her stay on her back?

  • Side is fine as long as there is nothing loose that can get in her face.  There are wedges you can get to help her position into a side position.  I tried those and also found that a rolled up receiving blanket worked too.

  • It's fine...they actuallt sell sleep positioners that would prop her on her side. My son was and is the same way.

  • Me personally I would leave her alone. If she's wiggling that way then there isn't much you can do about it. If you use something to keep her on her back she'll just be fussy and IMO more likely to have problems because she'll still try to do it

  • If she is in her bouncer, I would be afraid she would fall out if she moves to her side.  My kids fell out of those things in thier sleep.  Be very careful.  I was also told that you shouldn't let them sleep in those or car seats because of the way their head falls forward and it can cause breathing difficulties.  Could you try a blanket under the mattress to make an incline?  I'm sorry but I worry about that stuff.

  • Side is fine, especially if she can get herself into that position on her own.  I have a former 24 weeker, so I understand the whole reflux thing really well.  How is your dd doing, other than the reflux?

  • I tried a blanket under her bassniet pad, but it just didnt work right....it made me more worried when she layed on her side because she would have something in her face if she was to scoot down....

She has always had to sleep at an incline even during the 2 month stay in the NICU. They are actually the ones that said to put her in a bouncer to sleep if the blanket didnt work right.

  • Shes actually doing really well....getting fat.. she was born at 2 pounds 4 oz and is now almost 10 pounds! She has a blood disorder but its not related to her being a preemie, but shes doing ok with that as well, except she got swine flu because her immune system is almost non existant. But we managed to make it through that with out having to be admitted to the hosptial so shes doing really well
