I found out that my three year old son needs to get surgury next week. He has to get is two front teeth taken out. The nerve is damaged and it is making his teeth decay away slowly. I feel like a awful mother. I take mouth care very important and never thought this would happen to my child. I know kids loose there teeth but this too early and he will be with out for a while now. I dont know if I'm being just selfish and only thinking about vanity. HE is such a happy child and always has a smile on his face. He is still kinda young and when I talk to him about what is going to happen he dont understand. I want to do something special for him from the tooth fairy. Any ides? Just confused and very upset. =(

maybe a teddy or his favorite cartoon character with some money from the tooth fairy??
Aw momma. I'm sorry. We have really bad teeth in my house too. Despite constantly brushing. We have Cherokee teeth. That's what the dentist told me. Basically our teeth have huge holes all the way through that weaken the outside. Cavities form under the enamel and work their way out. I am about to lose all of my back teeth and my son had to have several baby root canals. my 15 year old has already had two root canals on adult teeth. So I understand how you are feeling.
I wouldn't do something extra special from the tooth fairy. I would do something special from mom though. And then the regular tooth fairy.
They have these wonderful toothbrush gift sets in stores now.....with the brush, paste, holder, and cup in all sorts of charecters. Do you have 2 baths? If so...make one his and decorate it.

Could the nerve damage be from hitting his teeth on something? When I was a kid I fell down on roller skates and chipped a tooth. It was a permanent tooth so I had a partial put on it. Over time my tooth turned yellow and I had to have a root canal because they nerve got infected (from the fall).
I'm sorry your son has to go through this at such a young age. I agree with a PP who said you should do something special from Mom and not the tooth fairy. Is there something special he has been wanting to do? A new toy?
I would not worry ! my three year old at the time had to have both her two front teeth surgically removed....when she was two years old she was running and fell with the pacifier in her mouth ..there was blood everywhere and didnt stop so i called 911 they told me to take her to the hospital well..the idiot doctor told me not to worry ...they didnt have to be removed...well when she was 3 and we took her to her first dentist visit ..the dentist said that they had to be removed because of nerve damage and that they can start to affect her adult teeth ...so a month later they knocked her up with some novacaine and took them both out , my husband said she was fine and didnt cry not once !!!
