Twice a year we all get together at my parents' house. The big holidays: Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Every year, my aunt drinks all the champagne and if you have never seen someone with severe bi polar disorder drunk, this is the place to be.
Every year, my brother has a different skank of the week.
Every year, my grandmother has something negative to say about someone, usually my aunt or my dad.
Every year, my dad hangs out in the backyard, stoking the bonfire.....because he can't stand his mother in law or sister in law.
Every year, my mom is going batty about cleaning and making food, on top of drinking a gallon of wine....all at the same time.
And every year, since I moved back up here, I have kicked back with my glass of champagne (usually my third or fourth) and watch as the entertainment progresses. Watching my family is better than primetime television and sitcoms rolled into one, LOL.
Sorry, had to share. I'm getting nostalgic about it all because I will relive this all again tomorrow, LOL.
Sounds familiar... I actually stopped Thanksgivings at my mom's side in Jr High or High School becuase it got so bad... Spent the rest w/ my dad until my Grandfather died & I knew they needed me there. I haven't been to either side of my family for Thanksgiving in years now (got sick one, worked the next & then last two have been with inlaws). I love my inlaws & their Thanksgiving, but I'm really homesick for mine this year... Not my mom's side though... The drama is already starting there lol. I'm already getting calls about it.
What's funny is that my daugher has only been a regular participant in this "tradition" for the last three years. Last year I got a million questions:
"Uncle has a different girlfriend. Where did the other one go?"
"Grampa was playing with the fire outside. I thought playing with fire was bad?"
"Why is Aunt Doreen acting so weird? She called me your name and told me to go and find my brother. I don't have a brother."
"Nana is grumpy. She keeps calling Aunt Doreen a 'goddamned lush'. What's a lush?"
I can't wait for the questions this year, LOL.
