Pools scare the crap out of me as well. Which is why I can't bring myself to let our kids stay with my in-laws for an extended period of time without me there. I love them to death and they're great parents and grandparents, but they have an in ground pool in their backyard and accidents like this can happen so fast. How horrible for that family.

We have an inground pool in our backyard...and our daughter knows how to open the backdoor. She is two and a half, and she has known how to open the door since she could walk...and it as soon as she could reach the lock she figured out how to unlock it too. She knows she isnt suppose to be in the back yard by her self but it still scares me. Accidents happen and it dont take long for lil ones to drown. I dont even like going to the bathroom for 10 seconds knowing she knows how to open the backdoor. Luckly we live with my fil, and two bils soo my fil is usually in the living room. I usually ask if he can keep an eye on her while im in the bathroom. I wanna get a pool alarm, but they are like $300+ dollars and we dont have the money right now....so she never leaves my sight.

You can buy a door alarm so that if she even goes out the door an alarm will sound they are cheap =] just like in a business when a bell rings when you open the door, they have them all over in stores too.
It isnt just sad its quite sickening to me, I litteraly get queasy when I hear of this stuff, I just always think of my kids you know? This story makes me even MORE thankful for my children =]
