Help... not sure if I made the recipe right - Corn Spoon Bread

Can anyone tell me what corn spoon bread is suppose to look like on the inside when done? Does it have a consistency of mush and corn (like corn pudding) or should it look like corn bread on the inside?

I found the recipe online and it was telling me to cook longer then 40 minutes but it will burn on the top if I cook any longer.

Please help, don't want to take this to families house if not right...

It should be mushy all the way through.

Okay great, that's what it looks like. How do you tell if its done? I assumed it was done because the top was golden brown?
