The Santa Talk

So tonight it came down to the nitty gritty with my 8 year old daughter. Apparently her teacher divulged in geography class the other day that The North Pole wasn't really a "place", but a geographical point. So Autym asks us tonight, "if there isn't a North Pole, then where does Santa live?" So we decide (kind of on the spot) to tell her the truth... as we see it. Being that some time ago people decided to combine St. Nicolas Day and Christmas into one holiday (although we celebrate St. Nicholas seperately on his Saint Day, December 6th), and that someone, sometime, decided to slap a belly on St.Nicholas' legend, give him reindeer and, thus, Santa was born.

I hated having this conversation with her, but she took it in stride. Until she thought for a moment..... "Mother, if there is no Santa, and there is no North Pole, what is going to happen to the ELVES?"

I laughed. I couldn't help it. I really couldn't. And she started to cry. And I felt horrible for laughing... really I did, but I couldn't help it. She didn't care about Santa not being "real", she only cared about those poor orphaned Elves, and I hadn't the heart to point out that they were only as real as Santa.

I believe in the benefit of organized after school activities. I believe in spoiling my children. I believe that I have seen the village and I do not want it raising my child - I will do that, Thank You. I believe that a woman's place is in the home taking care of her house, children and husband. I am submissive and proud, my husband is head of my home. I am a proud, traditional Roman Catholic, as is my husband... Yes we are teaching our daughter that The Church is the only Church.               Aimee

Santa IS real and so are the "elves". Santa is the spirit of giving and the elves are the "helpers", the ones the spirit of giving is embodying

ETA there also is North Pole, Alaska

Sad:(

We are choosing to never have that conversation. Santa is VERY real...he may not be a guy in a red suit...but he is very very real. Thats my story and I'm sticking to it!!

Ok... we just prefer to put it a little more towards the actual Saint.... being St. Nicholas. We have had many talks about this particular Saint and that he is the patron Saint of children, and why he is such.
