If you cook thanksgiving or christmas dinner do you do the dishes and clean the kitchen or do you make someone else do them ( or does someone volunteer) ?

just wondering i cooked all day yesterday and today and couldnt get anyone to lift a finger to help me clean up. Im not cooking on christmas. just gonna take my kids and I out for dinner instead so i dont have to bust my ass cooking and cleaning for ungrateful jack asses.

Maybe im just pmsing i dunno but growing up my grandmother did all the cooking and everyone else did dishes and cleaned up after dinner so the cook could relax and enjoy.

I cook and hubby and I both clean.   This year DH is deployed and I had a friend come over and she did ALL of the cleanup.  It was f'n awesome!

I cooked and cleaned. But it was no biggie. I basically prepared what ever i could in Microwave safe tupawares and slapped a lid on. All i washed was, the Roaster pan, and the pot for the potatoes lol. paper plates in this house!

I prefer to do it myself, too!  When I let DH clean the kitchen, I can never find anything I need!

My husband cooks the turkey in the deep fryer and I do all the side dishes.  After dinner is done he clears the table while I put everything in the dishwasher.  I like our system.

that is (PART of the reason)why we are very reluctant to invite my inlaws again. A few years back we had DH's mom, stepdad, little brother and bio dad. His bio dad had moderate dimentia so DH had to stay right behind him because he was a wanderer. I cooked EVERYTHING, then did ALL the dishes and when I was done my Step FIL was like well..?? where's the pie?  I was pretty PO'd. They never even said thank you

We hosted my family this year(my mom and dad and my grandparents) and DH, my mom and I did the dishes and clean up. I was very happy to have the help!

ETA i would never expect any of my guests to do ALL the work cleaning up but a gesture of help is what I would like!

Same here. I cook and clean. I don't like anyone messin' around in my kitchen!

For holidays, even if I cook, I will help with the kitchen.  but everyone else wants to chip in as well...
