I`ve been reading a lot of abortion posts lately and it got me thinking.
Lets say hypothetically speaking, that science proved beyond a shadow of a doubt, that life begins at conception. Not a lump of cells, but an actual child from start to finish. Would that change your views of abortion at all? Do you think abortion rates would be down?

Science already has a definition of life. Science know what occurs at conception. What you are asking is, "What if science changed it's definition to include a fertilized egg?"
The following is the definition of when an entity is a "life" as opposed to something being alive. For example, my arm is alive, but we wouldn't consider my arm a "life".
Let me again try to begin by defining life and I think there exists a reasonable consensus amongst biologists on this definition, namely that life consists of all of the self-contained units of nature considered primarily of organic matter, autonomously and I stress the autonomously capable of undergoing development, reproduction and evolution. Note that this definition excludes the viruses because they're not autonomously capable of undergoing development and reproduction.
The following addresses the question "When does life begin?"
Now in all sexually reproducing organisms, reproduction occurs as part of a life cycle. And there is a continuum of life cycles that takes us back to the very first organism here on earth.

"reproduction occurs
as part of a life cycle" means that life does not begin when conception occurs, it is continuing from the previous generation, all the way back to the very first organism on Earth.
It wouldn't change my opinion. Abortions are an unfortunate necessity.

no, not really. because you have to define "life". also, i hate abortions. i hate that potential babies are being destroyed. but....there are always reasons to terminate a pregnancy (other than birth control), so i am pro-stay-out-of-the-woman's-uterus
exactly its not me or my body, nor is it something I have to live with, but THEYdo, therefore my decision should have nothing to do with theirs , since it dosne't affect me in anyway.
No I wouldnt change my view on abortion. I dont think the rate would go down either.
As for me, my children were alive when they were conceived, however I dont expect other women to feel as I did.
What a woman does is between her and God (assuming she believes in him) and is none of my personal business.
I feel that I only have a say as to what happens to my body. I do not speak for or feel that I should make a decision on behalf of another woman. Each woman should have their own choice regarding birth control and pregnancy. Nothing that science or religion could say would change how I feel.

Mother is the name for God....on the lips and hearts of all children.
