Religion & Masturbation

I was listening to the radio today and a woman stated that she could not masturbate due to her religious beliefs.  A few of the posts on here also sparked my curiosity on religion and self-pleasure.  My question:

Does your faith disapprove of masturbation?  If so, what is the reasoning behind it and can you point me in the direction of a source (i.e. bible reference if you follow the bible)?  Thanks ladies!

Well I do know the Catholic Religion forbids "self pleasure " but I think its the dumbest thing in the world. Maybe if Priests WERE allowed to masturbate...They wouldn't be screwing little boys. Yes, I'm Catholic, but as I got older I've found the religion both ridicules and hypocritical. JMOOH, and I also will be going to hell cuz I'm not gonna stop NOW, its too late, hehe.Hey, just thought of how it would feel to have to CONFESS that to your Priest! Jeez, How many Hail Mary's would I have to say for forgiveness???

I disagree with forbidding it as well.  There are many health benefits as well as emotional benefits and I can't find a thing wrong with it ... which is what led me to post this ... I really want to know exactly where these ideas come from...if they are opinion or based on actual text, etc.

It's actually in the Bible, i couldn'ttell ya exactly where because , obviously not a good Catholic. And don't ya just LOVE those health benefits?

Go to the website themarriagebed.com. It is a Christian site that talks about this and other sexual topics in detail.

Hmm...I guess I can google it and see if there are any bible references.

Re benefits...who couldn't use a dewey glowing complexion several times per day lol.  Its a use it or lose in kind of thing...if you do not stimulate blood flow to the vulva it can atrophy....reduces the risk for cardiovascular disease, lowers blood pressure, decreases depression, I could go on and on...and on...lol

I would still like to hear from others who practice this belief...but since its almost 4am I better try to get a few hours of sleep!

Geesh. That's silly. No I don't think masturbation is a sin. I also don't do it though.

Holy crap!  What religion is this?  I want to make sure I never convert!

The only appropriate attitude for man to have about the big questions, is not the arrogant certitude that is the hallmark of religion, but doubt. Doubt is humble and that is what man needs to be, considering that human history is just a litany of getting shit dead wrong. - Bill Maher
