I desperatly need to find a job, but I CANNOT afford to put my daughter in child care until I find one. We're stretching every dollar as it is (which is exactly why I need a job). Doesn't the government offer funding for child care? Does anyone get it? Whatever information you have will help. Thanks!
Yes they do! Are you on food stamps or anything else?
They are ABC Vouchers here and you have to apply through the Department of Social Services. The wait list here is very long, last time I heard it was nearly 2 years for waiting. That is the main reason I didn't work when my kids were little. If I worked daycare would have taken every dime I made and a portion of my husbands and the wait to get vouchers was insane. We just stretched and stretched some more what little we had with his one income.
SS used to be in it. If you call your local Dept. of Health and Human Services, they should be able to help you. I'm not sure if it's them you go through, but they should be able to give you some info about it. I know where we are it's CCMS and you still pay some of the childcare, but your child has to be in full-time and they are only allowed to miss so many days in a year.

They do. The problem tih it is that there is a waiting list. I went in April 08 to get support for child care and they said the funds were frozen but they could put me on the waiting list. It took over 8 months for them to call me. By then I had already figured it out. If you qualify for Food Stamps and Medicaid you will qualify for Child Care assistance. I wish the best of luck to you.
Depending where you live it is easier to get. I have it now and had it when I lived in KY as well. In FL it is a 6-9 month wait to get it and you have to have a job when you go in there. They don't give it to you to help you have time to find a job. If you get cash assistance they will give you one month with daycare to find a job. But that is only if you get FS and cash assistance. In KY you get a job go up there and as long as you qualify you get daycare the next day. It all depends where you live. Call the food stamp office and they will tell you where to go or call to apply. Then call them and ask what info you need and how long it takes. Good Luck!!!

Nope. I'm not sure if we'd qualify for any of that other stuff. My husband might make too much. I was on medicaid before we we're married, but it was only pregnancy medicaid. I went off as soon as we got married.

I don't know how it works there but we get subsidized daycare here. You get approved for it real easy....but I guess that doesn't help cause you live in the states.
Do you have any friends or family around? What does your DH work? You can work opposite or near opposite. Thats what we do and Avalon is only with someone for 1.5 hours a day (which is cheap).
What ever you do but wary of cheap home daycare people. I made that mistake and it was the worst place I could have sent my child. :(
Momma to Avalon Grier. <3
Hopeless living, loving and laughing.
We are your typical hard working, punk rock listening,
vergetarian eating, rule breaking, world loving,
art creating, ever changing, always loving family.

Then you might not be able to get it. In Ohio you have to go to the Job and Family Services Department and ask for an application. On the application it will tell you if you qualify based on your income. Good luck!
Sorry I guess I should add that you want to ask for the application for child care not the foodstamps, medicaid, or cash assistance one.
