Here's the story: My sons woke up early this morning when their dad left to go hunting so i let them lay in bed with me while my 4 mo old son layed in his bassinet next to the bed. I got up to go to the bathroom and when i was done i heard the baby crying. I went to open the door and panicd when i realized it was locked from the inside. so i started to holler for my son hunter to come unlock it (i know he locked it b/c i didn't and i'd left the door open) Hunter appears behind me from his room. So my 4 mo old baby and my disabled son are stuck in the room. All the windows are locked so i try to call df and find out what to do several times i try but apparently he left his phone in the truck. Meanwhile i grab a screwdriver and try to pry the door open. By this point my disabled son tanner wakes up and starts screaming b/c he had been sleeping on my bed and wants down but can not do it himself. I'm scared and don't want him to fall and need to get in so i kick the door hard 3 times and it won't budge so finally i go to the last resort and grab df's hammer and break through the door to unlock it. By the time i get in and am comforting my kids df calls back and he is PISSED that i broke the door tells me i'm stupid for doing that but he wouldn't answer so how was i supposed to know what else to do. So i started crying harder and finally told him that this was my house i own, it's my door and those were our kids freaking out behind it so i don't care about a stupid door. that can be replaced. I asked him what else i could of done and he couldn't think of one damn thing but he's still pissed.

You did the right thing, you got to your son.  That is all that matters.  He wasn't there to help so he doesn't get to criticize how you decided to handle the situation.

The only other thing you could of done is if the hinges were on your side of the door, you could have taken the hinges off and then placed the door back without damage..... but that is only if the hinges were on your side.  IMO you did what you had to do.  A door is just a door.

I think you did what you had to do and he will get over it. Just give him some time and if it comes down to it remind him that he is the one who left his phone where you could not reach him.
