my last appt i talked with my doc more about my VBAC.
i asked her a few questions but want to run them by you ladies as well, the two things that worried me were:
1. i asked her about being induced.....she said i CAN be induced, as long as only certain things are used, and it is done VERY slowly....not a huge dose all at once to shock the uterus....i always read that you couldnt induce.
2. i asked her how long i could go after my due date. she basically said it was up to me (by 42 weeks) she said around 41 weeks if you arent thinned, dilated at all, and we see no changes she would prob recommend a csection right away since i guess i would only have about a 30% chance of having a successful VBAC. but i could choose to be induced if i so choose.
what do you ladies feel about this? i am new to this, and havent done A LOT of research and am very new to this.....hope you can help!!!!

she is very supporting of it, and said she will watch me closer then another pregnancy for any changes in baby in case of rupture. she said she has only had one full rupture within 12 years (and it was her first year there)
Quoting imechard:
What she says sounds about right to me. I am glad that she is willing to do a VBAC. I think she sounds very comfortable with it and I think that you will have a good change of being successful. Good luck!

congrats to you.
Now with that being said, I had a ces with my 1st and have a planned cesc with this one...i talked about vbac with my doc but the place and timing and damage of my last csec is to dangerous to have a vbac so planned i go....
my doc said that you as mother need to know that having a vbac is a great thing if you can but always keep in mind your body may not be willing so a c sec could happen so u have to be prepared to go either way..
relaxation is important part of natural labor, so to help with the process of a v bac you have got to figure out a few ways for you to stay calm and relaxed
First off Congratulations!!!
With that being said, you may respect and trust what your doctor has told you. But don't ever trust enough to not look into it. Ask for her percentage of successful VBAC (should be over 70%) her c/s rate all the goods. Then check with the hospital. My Doc led me to believe he was supper supportive of my VBAC decision, come to find out he hasn't has a successful VBAC all year and his c/s rate is over 40%. I HIGHLY highly highly recommend you check out "A Thinking Womens Guide to a Better Birth" By Henci Goer. It has great statistics and well documented facts and information for you. Do your research. You should never, ever, ever induce for a VBAC. It increases your risk for uterine rupture more than 5 fold. That's the big scare of a VBAC, uterine rupture, where essentially the scar from your previous c/s gives way and you have a hole in your uterus. 60% of ruptures happen before labor even begins. So if you've made it that far you're pretty much good to go. The actually percentage of rupture in VBAC is 0.05-0.07% compared to the 0.03-0.05% risked by all women who've never had a c/s. Other books I would recommend are "Gentle Birth Choices" by Barbara Harper, and "Born in the USA" By Marsden Wagner. If you are serious about wanting a VBAC I would explore your options of OB/GYNs and Midwives in your area to shop around and find one with the best rates.
If you have any questions, feel free to PM me. I am having a VBAC with this one in abot 2 weeks (yay!!!). I am also a Doula, and apprenticing midwife. And don't believe I've done more research on any other subject in my life :)
Best of luck mama, hope everything works out for you! Happy Holidays :)
* I also recommend finding a Bradley Childbirth Class in your area. Great for preparing for your upcoming birth

thanks for all of your help!!!!!

I guess it depends on care providers. My midwives and the OB's that backed them refused any kind of induction for VBAC because it increases the risk factors for uterine rupture.
If you feel as though you have a 30% chance of success with this provider, and you really want a VBAC, you should look else where. The average VBAC mom has a 60-70% chance of success going into it excluding other health factors.
I would look into your local ICAN chapter for support and education, as well as maybe looking into a VBAC birthing class.
Also, they may suggest a repeat cesarean if you go to 41 weeks, but unless you consent to surgery, they cannot force you into it.
I'm impressed with your doctor. If I decide to have another child I want to do VBAC, a lot of doctors shy away from that. Sounds like you have a good one.
she was saying it as in, women who go over 41weeks have a lower chance to have a successful one, and usually end up with a csection.
