Does a man have the right to defend himself?

So my question of the day is does a man have the right to defend himself against a woman. Women have called for equal rights and  be treated as equal for years. But with domestic violence it seems that a lot of people believe no matter what the woman does the man should never hit back.

Scenario: A man and woman get into an arguement. It gets heated. The woman smacks the man. Does this man have the right to smack her back? Ok say she keeps smacking him and spits in his face? Does he have the right to smack her back? Now he is walking away and she is hitting him, picking up things to hit him with and won't leave him alone. Does he have the right to hit her back? Why? Why not?

Now change the scenario to 2 guys. Does the other guy have the right to hit him back?

Now change the scenario to 2 girls. Does the other girl have the right to hit him back?

Domestic violence is WRONG. Whether it is the man who is the aggressor or the woman who is the aggressor. Why does it seems that we have a double standard? A woman can hit a man, spit on him, and etc and the man is required to walk away. No matter what. A man can be killed by a woman smaller than him. He can be inflicted with serious damage by a woman. But if you remove the sexes most people would say if person A hits person B , then person B has the right to fight back.

 I have always felt that EVERYONE has the right to defend themselves. If I hit a guy first, I should expect that he might hit me back. Now hitting someone half your size (guy or girl) x10 harder than they hit you is kind of ridiculous. But either way, I feel that no matter who you are, if someone hits you first and especially if they won't leave you alone, you have every right to hit them back.

EVERYONE has the right to defend themselves.  If a woman is making a man feel threatened of course he can hit her.  DH has a crazy cousin that used to beat the crap out of her DH - he would just take it and get black eyes and bruises.  One day she went at him with a knife and he pushed her and then hit her to keep her off of him.  She went to the police and they pressed charges on him.  I wish he would have gone to the cops every time he hit her, but because her family told him if he did it meant he wasn't a man.  Now, he has a DV charge on his records!  Damn double standards!

i agree...i think a lot of women get off on the fact that its almost acceptable for them to hit a man, but not for a man to hit them. if you hit someone, be prepared for the reprecussions.

but on the other hand,..i dont think that a girl hitting a guy twice as big as her should be hit back with all his force...kwim?

people--men and women--should just grow the fuck up and keep their hands to themselves.

i have a bil and sil the same way. they would get in fights and she was usually the one to start the hitting, pushing, slapping...he would restrain her, she would claw at him, spit, kick...then he hit her back and she was the "victim"...bullshit. dont get me wrong, BOTH of them were in the wrong. but if shes going to start it, and go at it like shes in ufc, i dont see her has the poor woman that didnt do shit. kwim?

As a good friend(guy) of mine always says "Equal Rights, Equal Fights"... but NO one should ever put their hands on their S/O... male or female... and yes if I hit my DF, I'd be prepared to get hit back....

 If I ever have a son I will teach him to never hit a women unless she attacks him first. In that case knock her ass back so you can walk away or call mama and she will come knock her ass down...

I will also teach my daughters that while they shouldn't let a man hit them they should not expect a man to let them hit him either.

I FIND IT INTERESTING THAT EVERYONE IS SO QUICK TO SAY--YES A MAN CAN HIT A WOMAN BACK.. BUT I KNOW FOR A FACT MOST WOMEN FEEL THAT IF SHE SLAPS A MAN SHE SHOULD GET AWAY WITH IT.. THATS WHAT YOU ALWAYS SEE IN MOVIES AND THATS WHAT YOU ARE ALWAYS TOLD AS CHILDREN.. BOYS DONT HIT GIRLS..

NOW ITS OBVIOUS THAT IN THIS DAY AND AGE THOSE VIEWS HAVE GONE OUT THE WINDOW BUT I WILL ADMIT THAT I USED TO FEEL AS THOUGH A WOMAN COULD HIT A MAN AND NOT GET HIT BACK...I HAVE NOW LEARNED THAT THIS IS FLAWED THINKING AND THE FACT IS...IF YOU DONT WANT TO GET HIT, THEN DONT HIT...BUT AGAIN I DIDNT ALWAYS FEEL THAT WAY
