I have a complaint about my state. I love where I live even though its kinda boring but its a nice place to raise a family.
My complain is that, I was watching GMA on Thanksgiving and they were doing the soliders saying hi and happy Thanksgiving thing they do for thier contry and families... thats great... but there was one dude on there from my state that was SO twangy country sounding, it made me sick... We already have the rep for being barefoot and poor, but this dude just made it sound so much worse on us. Not only that, but everytime I see something on TV, they usually pick the most wierd looking, poor looking, twangy people they can find to interview or do stories on. (not hating on poor people... we are broke ourselves...but we don't look like we came from the hollar in 1950s) I have a southern accent myself, but damn! At least people can decipher what I'm saying! I hate it that people from other states can never see the "normal" people that live here... and that sound "normal".
Any complaints about the rep from your state?
My #1 complaint about my State..
It is no longer as liberal or progressive as it used to be. Mostly due to a pretty large influx of people moving here during the last decade.
We have always been considered one of the "liberal bastions" of the country.. Not so much anymore and it bugs me.
I think a lot of people think of Ohio as boring but it can actually be really fun, I mean we have amusement parks and all that cool stuff too. But when you hear about Ohio in movies and stuff it is about boring, why the hell would you go there kind of things and we are not like that at all... And we always get all the different types of weather which I love. I love my state, I might just be weird

I feel ya... Have you ever seen the movie "Coal Miners Daughter"? (good movie BTW) about Loretta Lynn's life. Thats the perception that alot of people have about it now... All they see is the western side, and no where else, eventhough... the western side really does have alot of poverty. I live in Kentucky...
Your not wierd... lol.
I live in California..I hate that it costs so much to live here. We cant afford to die. There's no getting ahead.I feel like were always falling behind!
Not only do I have a problem with my state, but I have a problem with this whole country. My state is also known for accents, "yooper", accents to be exact. To put it bluntly, many people in my state sound like Sarah Palin but half in the bag. I have a strong accent too. I am also annoyed with the sound of my voice on an answering machine. I guess I am a self hater. I recently moved to a place where the yooper accent isn't the norm. I was grocery shopping and the check out lady thought I was from Canada. She got a kick out of what I sounded like. She said it sounded cool. I laughed because I had never heard someone say that my accent sounded cool. I have heard people say it sounds weird and odd, but not cool.
I think every state has that problem, in Ohio we get the crazies on the news, like the latest mass murder, and the darling girl who was shot by her boyfriend in the face while she was trying to leave him. I was guessing you were from California when I first saw you post, because a lot of crazy people come from there too, like me. lol.

Oh man, I've seen that movie soooo many times.. It was one of my mom's faves when I was growing up..
I live in Oregon. I live in Portland, and it's really different here in downtown Portland than it is say in Bend.. Ex: We have a gay Mayor, other parts of the state are anti-gay rights. It's strange here that way, one big metro area, then lots of rural areas. So the two sides seem to always be bumping heads when it comes to state wide issues.
Ummm...it rains...a lot. I live in WA so i'm used to it but....it still rains too much. Oh and I love Ohio and the south! My dad is from Ohio and his accent was pretty thick and I picked up on it so I get a lot of people asking me if I'm from the south and when I say no they think I'm crazy. Usually only happens when I get excited
