I don't think it supposed to be offensive. I think it just means like dark and bad. Doom... IDK... I can't explain it right but in my mind I know what I'm talking about

i think it's because stores rely on the profits from their sales to get back in the "black".  so many people start doing their christmas shopping after thanksgiving, and they spend more than they might otherwise, thanks to the deals they get.

The name started because most retail runs in the red until the holiday season.. Black Friday is the kick off to the holiday shopping season, which is the time in which most retailers make the most profit for the fiscal year. It's about bringing accounts (profit margins in retail) from the red into the black.

Nearly 70%  of the American economy is based on retail sales. Retailers need to be in the "Black" or showing profit in order to help keep the economy humming along (which is one of the reasons this recession is sticking around, no one is spending money, they don't have any to spend..)..

Its because USUALLy businesses are in the red but with black friday they are in the black, meaning making a profit
