Ok im almost out of milk and my boys wont go to bed without a cup of milk (bad I know..) I never run out of milk but I guess with the craziness from the holiday I just didnt notice-I called there dad and he wont drive down here. I dont drive.
anyway I have a can of evaporated milk-is that the same thing? Like if I mix it with equal parts water or am I way off?? I could always give them something else i have but I know they'll throw fits and im just not up for it tonight...thanks
Evaporated Milk
Often compared to the condensed version, Evaporated Milk is anything but. While only having a portion of the water removed, and being stored in a can, it also must be processed more to prevent bacterial growth in the storage process. Depending on what brand you choose, you can store it up to a couple of years. The best feature is that when combined with equal parts of water, the result is the equivalent of fresh milk, which can really save you when you are in a pinch. Yet it offers a unique taste that make it a perfect ingredient in cooking as well.
I've had to give my dd evaporated milk before having run out of regular milk too, i put 1/2 water and 1/2 evaporated milk and she doesn't know the difference.
People used to often use evaporated milk to make formula. You could just add water to it, but if they don't like the taste you can add a little sugar to it like they did with the formula and it will make it taste better.
When they made formula, they used:
13 oz. evaporated milk
19.5 oz. water
3 T. sugar
