Whitehall Officer Charged with Abduction

Whitehall, Ohio -- A former volunteer Whitehall police officer remains in jail on a $500,000 bond for allegedly abducting and attempting to murder his ex-girlfriend.

Joshua Gearhart, 27, was arraigned on the abduction charges Tuesday and is scheduled to appear in court on December 1 for a preliminary hearing.

The Whitehall police chief told ABC6 News that Gearhart was also fired as a volunteer officer.

Details of the incident reveal that Gearhart and his ex-girlfriend were together in a truck last Saturday night, when Gearhart asked her to "do something for him."

When she refused, police say Gearheart threatened to harm her if she didn't.

An argument ensued, during which the woman grabbed the vehicle's keys and ran off, police said.

Gearheart caught up to her and tried to drag her back to the truck, but the two tumbled into a ditch and started to wrestle.

Police say Gearheart tried to drown the woman in the watery ditch, but failed.

The woman eventually made if to a Shell Gas Station at state routes 741 and 725, police said.

Gearhart was spotted near Leona Lane and S.R. 725 about 6 a.m. by sheriffs deputies.

After looking into Gearhart's past, he was involved in a police involved shooting back in May of 2008 and in June of 2008 was accused of falsifying information to an officer and assault out of a domestic situation in CirclevilleWhitehall Officer Charged with Abduction

Wow....Just wait until you get older and you will see much more of your ex-classmates getting into trouble.  It is very disturbing that he was the law and ended up being a total creep.  You always have to watch who you trust.  No matter who or what they are.  Just goes to show that looks can be deceiving.

Thats so crazy! I was in drama class with this guy adam who robbed a 7-11 and shot the clerk..Insane.. that guy had issues her threatend our teacher that he would kill her in front of the whole class. Im glad that loon is locked up it just sucks that someones life, a Vets life, had to end.

This story didn't even include the part where he pulled a gun on his step dad and his stepsister's bf all while his 4yr old watched. People are just so messed up.

He was so easy going and nice in school.

Sadly,a guy that I knew all the way through school raped and murdered a woman while her infant was in the same room the year after we graduated....Never would have thought he was capable of something like that.Sickening what people we thought we "knew" are capable of!

Wow he has issues. He wanted her to "do something for him?" I wonder what he wanted her to do. And that's really sad that he tried to drown her. That is messed up. I'm really glad she got away from him alive and that he's behind bars where he belongs. What a freak.
