My FIL has had several girlfriends.  These girlfriends have kids.  I have the CUTEST picture of my husband, my FIL, my boys, and this ex-girlfriend's kid Jack.  LOL!  I want to crop him out.  Is it that bad?  Do you think FIL would be offended as he was the one who sent us the picture when it was taken?

Leave the kid in the shot unless your FIL and his Gf are not together. If they are split then crop the kid out lol.

I would leave it in if only because the boy being in the picture is part of the record of history - and of your family. I imagine that your FIL's girlfriends aren't too close with your family being that he seems to be a serial dater, but the boy was obviously part of your lives at the time that the picture was taken and I would (personally) not be comfortable erasing that part of my family's past.

Haha - if he's on the end and you can take him out without otherwise altering the picture, I think that's totally fine.  If you can tell, I always feel like it's rather tacky.

My great grandma used to cut out heads of family members from other pictures and paste them over the heads of exes in family photos. It was hilarious, and oh so obvious.  My grandmother has a picture of my sister and niece displayed that is blown up to the point of being grainy so it will fit the frame now that she has cut out my sister's ex husband.  It's so funny and tacky in cases like these, but if you can make it look normal - go for it.
