Today is my parents' 45th wedding anniversary. They were married 2 weeks after their first date in 1964. My mom was 18 and my dad was 22. They had known of each other, my dad and my uncle (mom's older brother) were best friends through high school (they are still best friends), but they didn't know each other well. The girls were not allowed out when my uncles had friends over, so they did not talk much. My dad asked my mom out and 2 weeks later, they eloped to Reno, NV. They tried for 7 years to get pregnant, and finally I was born. I was followed three years later by my brother and five years after that, our baby sister was born. They now have 9 grandchildren, including my 1st daughter who has passed away. They have always stayed strong for the family and have always been there for us whenever we need them. My parents argued in front of us on occasion, but they also let us see them kiss and make up. They never stayed mad for long. I love them so much and I only hope that DH and I will have the relationship that my parents have when we reach our 45th year of marriage.

So, how long have your parents been married?

My parents made it 10 years. THeir marriage was miserable. They never liked eachother. They were supposed to be a 1 night stand, but I changed that! They got married to do the "right" thing and so they would have a place to live (grandmother wouldn't let them live together if they weren't married, my other grandmother kicked my mom out)
My mom has had 2 failed marriages since, working on the 3rd one!
My dad and stepmom have made it 12 years and still going! I think they are stuck with eachother!

My parents have been married for 33 years..since 1976. They have four kids, (my three older brothers and me) and now one grandchild, (my daughter).

My parents' story is somewhat similar to yours. My dad's brother would come to my mom's apartment to visit her roommate and once in a while my dad would go with him. My mom knew him..but not well. She has some pretty funny memories of him at parties and stuff. Haha. They started dating, and eloped three months later. Ah..spontaneity.

30 years and getting divorced... Dad's still holding the papers and won't give them to Mom, who knows about his 2 yr affair (among many others over the years) and that he's filed.

This was our last Thanksgiving as a family and the only ones that knew it were me, my hubby, my mom and my dad. My other 2 sisters and brother are still in the dark.

It'll be 30 for them on Dec 14!
