Zhu-Zhu Pets. Are you serious?

I thought for fun I would look up the 2009 toys of the year, the one the kids and parents go crazy over. This year at the top of the list- Elmo Live (which is actually pretty neat IMO) and these Zhu-Zhu Pets. I honestly had not heard of them until today, not a commercial, nothing. Here is a link...

The prices on these things astound me. You don't even get the whole dang toy for one price, you have to buy all the stuff seperately. Some people say they are just like real hamsters, minus the mess. Seriously, just buy them a real hamster. LOL.

Anyone else find these absurd? Or are you buying these for your children?

I love my girls, Madison and Isabelle and my husband Sam more than anything in this world! :)

They aren't that expensive around here, but are totally out of stock everywhere.  Even online.  My little sister's whole Xmas list is composed of them.  Feel bad for her.

This was THE toy that my oldest DS wanted for Christmas! Every time he saw the commercial he would beg me to ask Santa for him! LOL He already has a real hamster, but he's not really interested in FlapJack cause he bites. So, after MANY trips to Toys R Us, we finally were able to get the zhu zhu pets and house and 2 accessories for each of my boys. He's going to be so happy! :)

holy crap... at that price they better be lined in gold. You can get a real hamster for that price AND all the things to go with it.

Wow amazon is expensive.  They are only like $10 at Walmart.

Yeah, um, no. What happened to imagination, and/or real pets? LOL. I hate all of these creepy animated toys. Like those cats that you pet and they purr and crap! Aaaaaaah!

Yep! Even save your money and buy another hamster when the first one dies, STILL for less.
