Black Friday thoughts from the front lines...

So I just got home from working a 12 hour shift at a retail store...I have to tell you people are amazing. Seriously, if you are going to venture out on Black Friday you are going to have to expect lines and a ton of people. Plus if you get to a store 12 hours after it opens..(we opened at midnight)...you probably aren't going to get anything that was part of a sale...by noon most of the doorbuster items are gone..

It amazes me every year how people complain about these things...some people just need to stay home...

  • You are one brave mama to work retail during the holidays! I couldn't do it! I also can't do that whole huge lines lots of people craziness it is just all to hectic for me. We went out around noon and got EVERYTHING we wanted for our daughter and more, yes she is only one so shopping is easier but we still got great prices (I am sure not the 5am prices but I got to sleep in at least LOL) I'm sorry you had to deal with all the disgruntled customers. I hope your evening was better!

  • Kudos to you for working that crazy day! Missed getting something I wanted, but I wasn't there 5 hours early so I knew it could happen! Felt bad for the people trying to stock extra stuff, they could barely get out into the main aisle before everything was gone, didn't even make it near the shelf!

  • LOL...I didn't work the midnight opening..this is the first year for that, however, at one point they had to shut the doors and not let anyone else in...we had reached capacity that our building could hold as far as people...it was a half an hour before they could open the doors again...

  • My husband has always done this and i never have untill last night! I left at 12 midnight and got home at 7am!  I watched them get stuff from the sale bens and hide it in other places and guard it untill 5! I watched them work in teams and stand in line for the TV's and such while another one stood in checkout line to save a place! It was wild!!!!! Then i went to another store that started at 6 and the line was around the corner and people were gathered up front of the door trying to break line and the cops was there telling them and they just stood there instead of going to end of the line! It was freezing cold out there 20's and some had been there for hours waiting in line! There was some good deals on things but not worth the troble and waiting! They made alot of money though. I felt sorry for the cashiers, they should get more money or a bonus for that!!!! The lines were all the way in the back of the store and more coming! What  a day!!!!

  • I am so glad that I don't work retail anymore. I think I worked 4 out of 6 black fridays at walmart no doubt. Now I am on the customer end. Today went pretty smoothly for me, I got everything I wanted and from the 5am start time I was in my at 530 and I got a lot of stuff.

But i agree it is crazy to think that some of the hottest items will still be there 12 hours later.

  • lol. I have worked black friday for the past 6 years, this was my first time not working it, and im counting my blessings! lol. I worked at sears, pennys, toys r us (the worst im my experience), and a few other places at the mall. You definitly get the impatient shoppers, and its like "Umm WTF did you expect!!" lol. You learn to get some thick skin for sure! :)

however I did go shopping today, (around 3pm) and got my bridesmaids their dresses, shoes and jewelry for $80 total. And I got my hunny and his "groomsmen" their shirts and ties for about $40 total.
