I want to start eating healthier, less sugary foods, eating out less, etc.
If we know we have the money in the bank, we'll eat out every time we go out. I know that needs to change not only for health reasons, but all those orders add up, so to save money we need to stop or atleast significantly cut back.
I cook almost every night, not from scratch, but also no TV dinners. I get my meat and veggies from out local grocery store, but would like to start buying our meat from an organic farm or 4Hers etc.
Once we get an apartment with a balcony I want to grow our own tomatoes, and such. Maybe start going to an apple orchard and such to get some of our other fruits, and farmers markets.
Does anyone eat healthier like this? Any stores or ideas/information would be greatly aprrectiated! :)
Horizon Milk is the BEST!! We can't get enough of it! We do prefer to eat organic, but especially milk, eggs, and some fruits/veggies.
We try to do organic as much as possible, but our personal belief is local is better than organic. I just never understood how getting organic food shipped from 1000's of miles away is better for the earth, better for you maybe, but in the big picture I will buy local over organic any day. That being said if you can buy local organic bonus! Go for it. I make as much from scratch as I can, I shop the outer side of the grocery store, nothing prepackaged. I don't know what the weather is like where you are right now but farmers markets are kind of a no go in northern NH right now lol. But thats the best way to go, you can get great produce much less than the grocery store. If you have any farms in your area get friendly with them. It can be an adjustment at first but soon enough it will seem like second nature.
Eating organic foods is tough as it can really cost a lot. I know that hubby eat a lot of organic and because of that our food bill can go up to $300 a week. I think that it is outragious for the cost of it, but it is healthier and like you, I should go to like Farmer Markets and stuff too. I know that they have one in a city close to me every Tuesday in the summer, so at least in the summer we could have a little healthier food. But if you can buy most organic and be able to eat it, that sure would be best. But I know that a lot of companies are going organic now because that is what we want, healthier foods, but at the same time, we really need something that is not going to cost us an arm and leg. I know that after I watched a show about how our food expeically pork, chicken, and cows are treated, that is when I started wanting to eat more organic foods..
I hope that it works out for you to be able to eat better foods, and going out to eat all of the time sure make life easy. Now they need to make healthier fast food places that will not drain your bank...

I buy most of my groceries from Whole Foods and Trader Joe's. I also get my meat from a local farm that flash freezes it for me to specifications. My fruits and veggies I try to get from my own garden if I can or my uncle's. I get a lot of deer meat from a local hunter. Every little bit makes a big difference. I trade with a lot of people. My hunter comes to my home with jugs for water and fills them at my tap since my water is straight from Provon Mountain where Poland Spring bottles. I get the bottled water right from my tap. It is a great trade for both of us.

I totally understand the local over organic. We shop at the Jubilee and I think they get a lot of their stuff locally, because they sell rabbits and such. Atleast I've never seen it in corporate grocery stores. We have a orchard near where we live thats still open so I think we can get apples and come other stuff there. And my parents live right across from a beef cattle farm, so maybe I can talk to that guy about getting some meat. I just don't trust prepackaged meat that much anymore. I'm in Maryland so I don't think there are too many if any Farmers Markets open right now.
