I need to get straight to the point here.  Tomorrow I'm taking my son on his first flight (he's 2 months old) out to NY to meet my family.  Even though I have read article up on article about flying with infants, going through the security and everything, I'm still so nervous.  I think I'm excited about seeing my best friend again (haven't seen her in almost a year and a half) and our kids meeting, I'm nervous about how things will go with my step dad with whom we've encountered many problems...I've flown before, plenty of times to feel comfortable about security and finding my gate...but as I've read, and can only imagine, having your baby with you brings on a whole new set of nerves and possibilities.  I feel like I've overpacked for HIM (packed hardly anything for me, 2 pairs of pants and a shirt, I can always wear my mom's stuff and she's got a couple things there for me, and would like to take me to get more that fits me....) but at the same time, I always think it's better to have TOO much than too LITTLE.  I also think it's because last year, with the weather, I was stuck in airports for a full day... delayed on my way out there 5 different times as a snow storm was hitting Albany, and then delayed I think 3 hours coming back, stuck in Chicago ON the plane for 2 hours after landing and then until about 7am when I found out I actually had a seat back to MN.  It was an absolute NIGHTMARE.  The butterflies are fluttering around in my stomach......yikes.

for carry on pack 2 shirts/pants for LO and for you pack (carryon) a pr of underwear, 2 shirts and extra pants. As well as the obvious coats and outerwear  LOL.   I travled with my dd when she was 4 months old. We started out in pjs for her and then as the day got warmer we put her in cooler clothes.  This was in july 2006.  We flew from wash state to MD.

i've got his bigger diaper bag (using as carry on even tho i can technically have another bag but i can't carry it all alone) packed with all his stuff, diapers, wipes, extra shirt for me (will have to put underwear in there as well just in case), and then one carry on sized suitcase that has my clothes and his blankets since they didn't fit in the diaper bag.  i'm using the moby wrap so i don't have to lug around the stroller

cool i figured i would throw in the undewear since once i flew and i didnt have that in carry on and my luggage got lost for a few days.  I know you said mom would have a few things but the underwear is good in case of delays at airports.
