So, I recently found out that my mother, who is still very young, has a heart ischemia. My doctor had to get my medical history again (long story!) and I was telling her I had asthema and my mother has a heart ischemia. She gasped! I told my general practicioner the same thing and he says,' WOW' so young? WTF?
What EXACTLY is a heart ischemia? I looked up all the stuff online, but can someone dumb it down for me? Heart disease runs rampant in my family and I have had a lot of chest pains with this pregnancy and that was enough to scare me into finding more out about this stuff.
Cardiac Ischemia is caused when the blood flow to the myocardium (heart) is partially or completely blocked. It is kinda major if not treated but there are many treatments available for it. It is just rare to see it in people so young.

Silent Ischemia and Ischemic Heart Disease
What is ischemia?
Ischemia (is-KE'me-ah) is a condition in which the blood flow (and thus oxygen) is restricted to a part of the body. Cardiac ischemia is the name for lack of blood flow and oxygen to the heart muscle.
What is ischemic heart disease?
It's the term given to heart problems caused by narrowed heart arteries. When arteries are narrowed, less blood and oxygen reaches the heart muscle. This is also called coronary artery disease and coronary heart disease. This can ultimately lead to heart attack.
Ischemia often causes chest pain or discomfort known as angina pectoris (AN'jih-nah or an-JI'nah PEK'tor-is).
Here is the website: http://www.americanheart.org/presenter.jhtml?identifier=4720.
Ischemia is when there is a lack of blood to a body part. Heart ischemia means that the heart isn't getting enough blood and oxygen ( blood carries the oxygen ). It is a term used for coronary heart disease....sometimes is indicative of a past heart attack.
Well, that's nice! I appreciate all the translation : ) Looks like it's time to make her a cardiologist appt!
Melatonin protects against heart ischemia-reperfusion injury by inhibiting mitochondrial permeability transition pore opening, call her doctor and ask if she would be allowed to take Melatonin pills or liquid before she goes to bed , basically it means it lessens her chance of having a heart attack. also look into asprin, to thin her blood a little bit
