***NOT DRAMA!!!!!!!!!!!!*** Just a quick question about car seats/booster seats.
My ds is 2 1/2 and 35 lbs right now.
His shoulder straps are lower than his shoulders and I know that's a bad thing. Is he big enough/old enough for a booster yet? Or should I consider getting a bigger car seat? This an honest to God question that I hope won't cause drama. Just a simple answer is all I'm looking for. Thank you!!
I would go with a 5 pt harness until he is (I would say) at least 5 if possible...HTH

He is wayyyyyyyyyyyy too young for a booster seat. Get him a bigger carseat until he is like 4 years old. Dont put him in a booster for a long time. Its not dont just by weight. My son is 18 months and 47 pounds but I wont put him in a booster until he is much MUCH older.
My daughter is 3.5 and I have no plans ona booster for a couple years...
I am a 24 year old SAHM of 2 beautiful kids that are the light of my life and my reason for living! I've found the love of my life and we have made a beautiful home together. I'm starting college and am working toward an RN degree...Life is perfect!

I don't know if he is quiet old enough for a booster but maybe just a different car seat. I know that there are some car seats that are made bigger than a normal car seat and then after a while the back of it can come off to turn it into a booster.
I wouldn't put a 2 1/2 yr old in a booster - I *think* it is against the law in some states as well.
I would get him a high weight harnessing seat, something with higher top slots since he seems to have a long torso. The Graco Nautilus is what we moved my daughter to at almost 2 1/2 when she outgrew her Britax Roundabout by torso height. She is still in it at just over 4 with 1 slot above where she is at now so at least a year or more before she has to go to booster mode. You can get one in the $130-160 range depending on store and walmart usually has either .97 shipping or site to store for free.
There are other high weight seats but the only one we have used is a Britax Regent and for some reason my son actually prefers his Nautilus (he's almost 5 1/2 and also still has one more slot to go). He was 37 lbs at about 2 1/2 and at 5 only weighs 45 lbs now, lol.
Good luck and I hope you get some good advice!!
i myself put my son in a booster seat at 2 and then about learn the hard way why it is not safe until the age of 4. so i would get a bigger carseat. my son is 3 and is in a britax marothon which i am about to get him another seat cause he is getting to big for his seat.
my son in his carseat.

and yes a bad picture him in a booster at age 2

This may sound extremely ignorant/dumb, but is a 5 point harness still a car seat?
Well technically I belive it could be both in a sense. Like for example my oldest is in a 5 pt but it is a high back booster. When she reaches the weight requirements she will have to move to the HBB with the regular seatbelt unless we can get her a new one before then (but I doubt it with the money issues right now.) This is the one she has:
See it has a 5 pt harness and then converts to use only the seat belt. I would keep him in a 5pt harness as long as possible honestly.

Yes a 5 pt harness would still be a
car seat. Some of them may be listed under High Back Booster on some sites though. Or they may be labeled Youth seats as the higher weight ones or the convert to booster ones only face forward.

Look for a graco nautilus....you can find great deals online :) And it will keep him harnessed til 65lbs and then turns into a high back booster and low back booster....def. worth the money you won't have to buy another seat! Your peanut is too small for a booster right now he would be at serious risk for submarining and seat belt syndrome.......you can see the nautilus in my siggy my 5yr old sits in one. Kids are usually old enough for a booster at 6-7yrs of age when they can pass the 5 step test which you can find at http://www.carseat.org/
good luck!
