The heart of a champion

My son has it that is.  He is 9 years old.  Saturday we dropped some stuff off at Goodwill and he asked can it go to the people in Haiti and I said not honey it doesn't go to the Haitian people,  and he was staring out the car window deep in thought.  Suddenly he starts sobbing.  I ask what's wrong.  He said Mommy, I am just to upset about Haiti, it's awful.  People died and they don't have water and food and the kids and people are hurt. I want to give my money to the people in Haiti, pulls out the 5 dollars he has in his pocket and hands it to me.  My little boy..is so moved by the people in Haiti he could not speak.  He wants to find a way to raise money for the Haitian people.  My little boy is so tender hearted and precious.

Also last night we were watching a movie about Rosa Parks.  It was not a violent movie but it did talk about what was going on at the time. He is old enough to watch it and we watched it with him.  He said Mommy if I had lived then, I would have told those mean people they were wrong and I'd have made a difference cause I'd have helped Mr. King make a difference cause we are all special and God created us all and it is just wrong to be mean to people like that.  I'd have stood up for them.  My sweet boy.....can i be more proud.....he truly does have the heart of a champion.

Thanks.  I am so proud of him.  We had to stop watching any earthquake coverage if he is within hearing distance, he gets so upset by their suffering.  He says Mama one day..I am going to change the world and make people be nice to people and help all the hurting people.  Yeah....it turns me to mush..LOL.

Awwww, that's so sweet!  You're raising a very considerate young man.  My only hope is that there are many more out there like him.  You have every right to be proud!  I would've been crying!

thanks y'all.  My little guy has faced a lot of challenges in his life. We have almost lost him several times due to asthma.  He has been through a lot.  I think he is strong and has compassion because partly what he has been through and partly because we teach him that all people matter.  Animals and our earth matter.  As people we are responsible for what we say and do to and for others.  We can have all the money in the world but if we don't treat others with love and compassion we have nothing.  I think it is getting through.  We love our kids.  If they get mad, we don't tell them you have no right to be angry....if they need to cry we let them.

I think it is part of his personality too because even when he was a toddler he showed compassion. When he was 2.5 and I was pregnant with my middle child....he'd go to the bathroom with me and hold my  hand while I puked and say I sorry you so sick Mama...I pray for you.  I hold your hand.  I am blessed to be his and my girls mother.  thanks y'all
