Mine is 16 months and he has started doing this a few times.  After his face turns bright red and gags he pulls his hand out of his mouth and laughs.  I hope its just a stage!

Mine did the same thing. He even threw up from it a few times. I asked the pediatrician about it and he says they do it to get  reaction and they are learning about cause and effect. He said that they find it fascinating that they can cause themselves to have a reaction. He also said to try and ignore it, they really enjoy seeing Mommy get all freaked out. He did it a few times a day for a couple of weeks and hasnt done it sense.

i'ts sensory based and quite normal.. as long as he doesn't keep doing it for more than a couple days.

if he does? still not a big deal just a sign of sensory dysfunction. one in ten people have one form of it or another.  have anything that "skeeves" you out?

 a particular fabric? or.. texture?

it's very common and it's it very treatable with occupational therapy. i don't think you have to even think that far ahead quite yet. just tell him "no" and pull his hands away for now. if it persists... then you need to talk to the dr. about some occupational therapy which is for free and available right in your home through early intervention.

My dd is 20 months and she's been gagging herself for a while.  I don't know how to make her stop until she finally vomits all over herself to see what it can do to you.

My 3 month old does that and my now 2 year old used to do it, although I don't remember when he started/stopped. Seems pretty normal to me.
