Should the government Tax soda because so many children are drinking to much of it? I guess in California the government is thinking of taxing soda. I think that is totally stupid, because those of us that actually know how to feed our children are being punished. I don't even give my kids soda, I don't even drink soda myself unless I need some sprite because of morning sickness, or I am at a party and there is nothing else to drink. I don't think that the government should try to control  what we eat anyhow. If there is a problem then tax the parents that have obese children, children with type 2 diabetes, and no health reason for it, or children that show signs of poor nutrition. Take that money that they waste on all those commercial for type 2 diabetes, and start a class for parents who's children show signs of poor health, and nutrition and make them take a class because I know how to pick up a book and find out if my child is eating properly or not.  Don't punish everyone because some people think a healthy diet consist of hot dogs, chicken nuggets, and a coke. *sigh* They already took all the junk food out of schools which to me was totally stupid, because growing up my mom was strictly organic, and healthy food so school was the only place we could get junk food! Whats really irratatioing is that this still wont fix the problem. They took all the junk food out of the schools and guess what? still have obease kids, kids with type 2 diabedes and other poor nutrition realted issues. Your right it wont effect me, and those who dont really drink soday anyways but its still not going to help the children who actually need help.

I am 100% for luxury taxes anyway.  They should tax the hell out of stuff we do not need and totally remove taxes from necessities.

If you don't drink pop or give it to your kids, how are you affected?  If it is only every once in awhile, I am sure that $.02 will not affect you.

I'm all for it!  I don't drink soda and neither do my kids, but my husband does and honestly a few more cents on that isn't gonna bother me one bit!  Tax the stuff that is a luxery so we don't have to have the nescessities taxed.  I just quit smoking 2 weeks ago and even when I was buying cigs, I was still saying I would rather them tax me on this or alcohol then on the food I HAVE to buy.  Just makes sense to me!  Also, I live in MS and our food tax is more then 9% so I really feel the pain there!

It's already taxed in a few states. Heck, I get taxed on all my food here in AR.

Because if I want to drink it then I should be able to without a penalty. After Soda whats next? Is this really going to solve the problem of making less kids have diabetes, or be overweight? No! so I just don't see the point, and I oint want to have taxes on everything just because they can.

I think some people just like the idea of the government trying to control our behavior.  It's like they want a parental figure telling them what to do, so the principle of it doesn't bother them.  Personally, I'm not a fan of the nanny state.  I'm an adult and can make my own choices just fine, thank you very much.

It's already taxed in Ohio.  Not fountain drinks..But bottles and cans are.
