Picture People are WONDERFUL but they are pricey- you do get your pictures within an hour of getting them done though. I have not been to JCP or Sears so I can't say anything there. I usually do DD's pictures myself.

We've always used a few of my friends who own some photography studios to take our pictures, however, I know some people who got their kids pictures done at Picture People and I thought they turned out really good!

Do you have a Portrait Innovations by you? I used them for the first time at Christmas and LOVED them!!

My son's first and second year pictures were done at JCP.  The first time, they were wonderful.  We got in on time, the photographer was flexible and creative, and the photos turned out beautifully.  Second year, we went to a different (closer to home) JCP studio.  The one photographer on duty was running almost 30 minutes behind schedule, she was rushing through our session, not taking many photos in any one pose even if we had a prop that was really working for our son, and the photos are . . . well they're nice but you can see exactly how frustrated our son was.  But the end, he was practically yelling.

This year, we're going to Portrait Inovations.  Supposedly, we get our photos within 15 minutes.  They claim their photographers are trained to follow little ones around the studio, instead of trying to make them stay on the red dot, the way JCP and Sears do.  We'll see how it goes.
