How do you not know? Nevaeh s/o

Maybe it is because I have always been into names and have always searched my favorite names. Asked opinions on it, found out what it means, checked the popularity. It never came as a surprise to hear someone else with the name. I just do not get how someone can think they are being so unique when they name their child something super popular/trendy. This is not meat to be a bashing post. Like the Nevaeh post, every parent who named their dd this explains the name. Do they really think they thought of it all on their own? The name is so huge right now and has been for years now. It is not just Nevaeh though, like the Aidan/Jaden/Braden names, I have seen people say they were the first to name their kid this and the year the child was born the nae was already really popular and had been years before.

ETA: This is ONLY in refrence to the parents who DO or THINK these things.

i hate it when people say they were the first to name their kid a popular name. speaking of which..i named my son aiden, lol. but i did it for different reasons. i grewup with a horrible name that is a boys name in the US and girls name in my home country. people still refer to me as MR over the phone and in letter so i named my son a BOYS name that was very popular so he would never be mistaken for anything else but the wonderful boy that he is!

I wonder the same thing.  If a name is popular, I stear clear just for that reason.  But I don't get how people can pass it off as a unique idea.

Well, I have an Aidan. He's 8.5 now so I decided on his name almost 9 years ago. At the time I wanted something somewhat unique (I had 2 other "Nicole's" in my class all through elem) but not way out there. I didn't think I "made up" Aidan, but I did research it and at the time it was not that popular (about 98th on the SS list.) As soon as I named him that, it got super popular and I started seeing it everywhere. But MOST kids with the name are younger than mine.

So for Dylan, I didn't even bother. I chose a name I liked and I'm not surprised when I run into another, lol.

I checked the popularity of Peyton and Mackenzie. At the time, Mackenzie was at 58 or something and Peyton wasn't even on the list. I didn't want anyting too popular, but it was the only names DH and I could agree on. I've only come across 2 or three onther gilrs by those names in 5 years.

Another name post....

My SD is Nevaeh.  My husband had heard the name once when he named her.  She is 7, so we are talking almost 8 years ago.  But really, does it matter?  Is it really any different than Jack, or Jennfer or any other name that you hear every day?  He liked it, so he named her that.  **SHRUGS**

well I had only seen a few lorelai's but after my dd was born and she got that name i saw it more and more often and now it ia almost common....but I take comfort in knowing I did not name her after a tv show(the main reason I didn't want to name her this name) I named her after a greek mythology siren...since thats what it said in the antique name book where we found the name LOL

But I didn't do it to be unique...heck my son's name is Josh how common can ya get LOL I did it because myDh loved it and  MIL hated it

My oldest 2 have really common first names, Juan & Maria. I have never heard Guisella before I met DH, but evidently it's pretty common too.

I really don't like "trendy" names. My son has 5 Kaden's and 3 Ashton's in his 1st grade class. And there are 2 Hanna's and 3 Nevaeh's in my daughter's pre-k class. It's very annoying sometimes.

My name is Jessica it was the second most popular girls name the year I was born. I almost always had another Jessica in class with me growing up. It really made me careful about what name sI choose for my kids. My son was born in 2006 and we names him Isaac I dont even think his name made the popular list that year. Everyone was naming their kids Aiden and Jaden....
