Luna had an Upper GI today...and they just had her drink some stuff...and she downed it, my poor hungery baby. The doc doing it said....wow! So i looked at the screen, and shes refluxing all the way back up, then right before she vomits it, it goes back down. This happend about 4 times in the 5 min viewing period. The doc said ummm she has reflux and its bad! My poor baby, now what happends? I know we have to go back and see her GI
I should also add,,,,shes already on meds for it
reflux meds won't stop her from throwing up they will only cut down the acid so its not as umcomfortable for her. We are going through the same and my son had two of the barium x-rays. Basically there is really nothing they can do if everything checks out normal. It's just the valve in their tummy is immature and will get better when she grows. Keep on the meds to cut down the acid so its not burning her throat when she throws up. My son has mostly silent reflux, he throws up and swallows it so he gets a bad diaper rash from that if we cut him off the meds.
After they have exhausted every Med.. Surgery is next usually. NO meds worked for my son and he was losing weight so he had a Nissen Fundoplication. Surgery is the LAST resort....They only do it after most/every med or med combo fails.

oh and if your daughter is on formula they do make a thicker formula that helps I have been told (my son is breast fed) or sometimes they suggest adding cereal but I would only do this if your ped. recommends it. And like someone said keeping them upright helps. Also smaller more frequent feedings seems to help my son a lot. I find if I can keep him satisfied but not starving so he over eats then he pukes a lot less. Means more feedings for you but more stays down. When they throw up and their throat hurts they tend to want to eat because it sooths it. They over eat and puke more often its kind of a viscious circle.
I had to have what is called a fundoplication performed - they took half of my stomach and wrapped around both sides of my esophogus and stitched it up to form an artificial "les" valve - that is what keeps food downa nd acid from coming up.
ETA: I had this done in 2001 and have not had one bout of heartburn, but know that it is a physical impossibility for me to throw up...when I am sick to my stomach, I am sick! Also, there may come a time when I would have to have it "stretched" but so far, I haven't had to. I have considered having the process reversed.

Has she been given a diet list? Try some yogurt on her, it usually helps with tummy problems. Make sure it's the yogurt with LIVE CULTURES
