Bad Babysitter! BAD BAD babysitter...

These are the nights that make me never want to leave my kids again... for any amount of time :-(

DH and I went to a movie and before we even got out the door the sitter was on the couch TEXTING!!! I had a feeling that's how it would be the whole night. But DH and I still decided to go since we already had the night planned.

When we got home, our oldest (8) told us that the sitter was texting ALL NIGHT until her battery went dead on her phone. DD2 is potty training... never asked her if she needed to go the the bathroom. DD fell off the couch and hit her head and DS said that the sitter never even looked up from her phone to make sure she was ok :-(

Later I noticed DS's room was a mess. I specifically told him before I left that he is to stay downstairs so the sitter doesn't have to chase them everywhere. When I asked him why he chose not to listen, he said because the sitter wouldn't play with him or his sister so he brought her upstairs so he could play with her and keep an eye on her. Awww... melt my heart!

There was even a point where DD got her stool and opened the bathroom cabinet and put hand sanitizer in her MOUTH!!! MY SON is the one who noticed and HE IS THE ONE who forced her to drink water when he realized what she had done! The sitter didn't call me OR TEXT me to tell me what had happened.

Finally I asked if the sitter was at least nice to them... he said that the sitter didn't say two words to him or DD... was texting the whole night :-(

I feel like a terrible mother...

Some additional information. The girl is 12 years old and the daughter of our good friends. We have had her babysit before and never had this problem, but I was always home when she sat the kids (the first time was a phone interview I had, and the next time was for a cubscout meeting during which I had to help the boys bbq and wasn't able to pay my full attention to DD). So this was the first time she's watched the kids without us being home but we were literally 5 minutes away at the local movie theatre.

:(  That sucks...however, that's the exact reason that I won't let my little sis (12) babysit...some 12 year olds are super mature and great babysitters!  Others...well...others are like that girl.  I'm sorry you had to come home to hear that :(  Thank goodness your son is quick thinking and protective!!!!  Did you at least enjoy your movie?

Awwwww...so sorry. I would have a talk with her parents. I think they would want to know how she acted and if they are good parents they should make her give you her money back (unless she needs it to pay her cell phone bill from all the texting charges...LOL).

AWW!  I'm sorry.  Godd job to your little guy for keeping an eye on your daughter.

(I actually had to quit my job when I found out my babysitter was putting my kids to bed, and going across the street to hang out with friends.)  I didn't find this out for a couple of weeks  :(

WOW, I'd be talking to her parents and making sure people that may use her in the future know about this.

On a side note WTG for your son, he did such a good job! You should reinforce that he should call you if something like that ever happens again in the future.
