if you saw a child under 1 with an arm or leg cast would you think abuse?
or would you just think they fell somehow?

No I wouldn't think abuse. There are lots of reasons why they might be in a cast.
i would think the kid fell...my older ds used to bang his head on the floor when he was younger which resulted in many bruises on his forehead in varying degrees of healing. so i dont always think abuse when i see stuff like that.
I would wonder what happened but abuse would not be the first thing that popped in my head.
Now a days you have to worry about taking your child to the hospital because they fell or something and worry about what people will think or say. It is horrible.
However, I think who ever beats/abuses their child should have the same thing done to them.
Same here. I'd think they either fell down or had to have surgery to correct something
Quoting MeVinceandBaby:
abuse would not be my first thought.

Children under 1 can walk all of the time. Accidents happen. My middle DD could walk at 8 months but NEVER paid attention to anything & ran into everything. My oldest always was covered in bruises. She is just like me & would bruise if you looked at her wrong lol.
there could be many possibilities. i saw a girl with both legs in cast who was just a few weeks old. when she was bron the bones in her legs were almost backwards. there could b a possibilty of abuse, but there are so many ohter things to think about. they easily can fall esp if they r learning to walk or they got near stairs that wernt blocked off properly. i try to feel sympathy b4 i start thinking accusations
I wouldn't automatically think abuse. There are all types of reasons for casts.
