Car Seat Question

my son is too long for his infant carrier. However all the car seats I have seen that I can afford start at 22lbs or more. He is 20lbs 6oz and 30inches long @ 7mths.  I don't have a car so he is rearly in one (4 times a mth at most) is it ok to use the carrier until he gains the weight or should I use the bigger seat even though he isn't quite heavy enough?

thats for forward facing......you are probably looking at the cosco scenera which would work out fine for your little one who needs to stay rearfacing until AT LEAST 1yr AND 20lbs legally....although it is safest to keep them rearfacing to the limits of the seat for rf.....you can rf in the scenera until 35lbs and when there is less than 1 inch of shell above babies head in the car seat.......to turn a scenera ff the child must be 22-40lbs, 1yr of age...AND 34inches tall....

hope this helps if you have more question please ask!

I think you were looking at forward facing only seats, which isn't what you would like at this point. A great part time seat on a low budget would be a Cosco Scenera you can get it for $50 sometimes less if you find it on sale. It rear faces to 35 lbs and then forward to 40 lbs. It's a very light weight seat so easy to move in and out of cars.

@jenb ...thanx

@amilanell...no i was looking for convert able but as my son is getting VERY close to 30lbs at 8mths old i didn't think a seat that rearfaced to 35 lbs was a good idea as he is likely to be that or above before he is one and able to ff and i ask help in find a seat the rf long enuf for him to reach the correct age that was  lower than  the 1150-200 price range...so thanx to my sister we now have a safe seat that he can rf in for quite some time (@ least another 6 mths...i hope)
