Giving Cereal before six months Erased and new edit.
I thought this post got locked, who in their right mind unlocked it?
yup i was totally selfish at 3-4 months cause GOOD GOD i needed sleep of i was going go kill myself. wohoo for you honey! but my sons pediatrician said it was fine. and gosh golly i am gonna go with a Dr rather than a CEREAL SNOB on cafemom. (the cereal snob is from another thread)
Clicked this subject so I could inform you its not a good idea
confused lol i must of missed the drama again.
I started cereal at 2 months on my pediatrician's okay. I am talking one or two small spoonfuls TOTAL. The point was to get her used to the spoon and cereal for when I graduated her to eating more of it later on.
I've NEVER given it in a bottle.
P.S i think any one who chooses to use cereal early should talk to thier dr first.
I gave cereal to both of my kids at about 4 months, and they are both fine. The pediatrician said that it was fine to do so. Both of my kids would get up anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour a night, so yes I got literally no sleep at all. It was the only way to get them to sleep at all.
I started my DS on solids at 4 months because the pediatrician said it was okay. I didn't do it for the reason of sleep either. I did it because I thought it was the right thing to do - I was following the doctor's instructions! (And I did NOT put it in his bottle btw, he was eating off a spoon.)
I completely agree with you. Our bodies were made to deal with the non sleep of a new parent. I know at times it doesn't seem like you can deal with it but the truth is you can. I will never understand why anyone would want to add the risks that are associated with early solid introduction and through a bottle at that. Since the decision has nothing to do with what is right for the child it is a very selfish decision to introduce solids for such a reason.
Giving them cereal DOES NOT ruin a baby's digestive tract. As a matter of fact it is one of the prescribed (by doctors) treatments for infants who already have digestive tract issues. All four of my kids were on cereal from a week old and younger for medical reasons. The youngest has his NICU nurses mixing it up for him. Now I'm not saying it should be done for a healthy baby, I just had to set that straight.
