Man Busted on Child Pornography Charges

(ABC 6 NEWS) -- The investigation is over.

Now an Albert Lea man faces a dozen child pornography charges.

That man faces prison time and fines after police found the illegal porn on his computer.

While these cases are on the rise, it may soon be easier to catch the criminals.

"Two years ago we had one or two child pornography cases, last year, I think we've had about ten cases of child pornography, and it's only going to increase," said Detective Frank Kohl, with the Albert Lea Police Department.

The most recent case involves this man, 26-year-old Travis Holst of Albert Lea, who is charged with possession of these illegal images.

"12 counts based on 12 different videos that were allegedly found on his computer," said Freeborn County Attorney Craig Nelson.

"And were not taking about pictures were talking about videos," said Kohl.

An investigation into Holst began a year ago, when local authorities were alerted to illegal downloading by a task force focused on Internet crime against children.

"When persons download those videos there can be a following of who has downloaded from what locations," said Nelson.

"As it is now some of these case take anywhere to six months to a year before the hard drives can be copied," said Kohl.

But in the future, investigating these cases for the Albert Lea Police Department won't take as long because now have a computer which can do the searches... instead of waiting for Bureau of Criminal Apprehension in St. Paul.

"Having a forensic hub here where we can examine the hard-drives in really going to speed up the process," said Kohl.

Speed that detectives say they can't be more grateful for when dealing with child pornography.

"It’s exploitation of children is basically what it is," said Kohl.

As the city's most recent case, Travis Holst has yet to enter a plea.

He's due back in court on April 5th.

If Holst is convicted, he will have to register as a sex offender.

They need to stop the people who make the pornography not just the people who down load it.

 I don't understand how humans can be so effed up either.

But I do think that they should leave the internet porn alone.  When it's easier to just steal a child and get your thrills in real life than to download porn it'll be worse.

What do you think they do with the kids they steal? They make these sick movies it is a million dollar venture. Alot of them are made over seas where the laws are not as strict. Kids are kidnapped and tortured to make these things.

 I think very few are used to make movies.   The majority are just used, killed and thrown away.   Just like when some rapists get out of prison and then kill their next victims so as not to leave a witness.  Seems to me like the crimes get worse......

I heard this on the local news last night,thing was I was eating a good supper,I about gagged on my food.And this happened about a half hour from where I live.
