People don't typically work for 30 years right??? What happens when you are to old to work and you still got mortgage left? oh and if you die is your mortgage wiped away?? My moms mom has a mortgage that when she died it was paid off, even though she didn't pay it off? DO they still have those?

My husband is only 23, I'm only 19. In 30 years one of us will still be working for sure but we plan to pay off our mortgage before the 30 year period.

As for your grandma's mortgage, did she have life insurance that would pay off any existing debts?

I think there is a certain insurance type thing that if you die, your mortgage is paid off even if you still owe on it for 15 yrs.

My folks had a life insurance policy on thier mortgage that way if either of them died, the mortgage was automatically paid off.

Hubby and I have the same thing on our mortgage.

Most mortgage co's have a clause where if you die it will be paid off, it costs a little extra a month though.

I have a friend who's dad was murdered in '08. They had just bought a house right before they were both laid off but didn't get that extra insurance. When he died, her mom was left with no income and a $1400 a month mortgage. He didn't have life insurance either, so she had to sell the house.

Youncan retire at anytime you can support yourself...but SS will kick in at 65 or 72. I actually think it's 72. I started working at 16. So that would be 56 years for me.

People don't work for 30 years?  Your mortgage does not go away when you get old or die.  That's what life insurance is for.
