GASTRITIS--inflamation of the stomach lining

worse than labor and delivery!!!

Gastritis is an inflammation (irritation and swelling) of the lining of the stomach.

  • Abdominal pain
  • Abdominal indigestion
  • Dark stools
  • Loss of appetite
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Vomiting blood or coffee-ground like material

Treatment depends on the specific cause. Some of the causes will disappear over time. Medications to neutralize stomach acid or decrease its production may be recommended.

There are many causes of gastritis.

The most common are:

  • Alcohol
  • Erosion (loss) of the protective layer of the stomach lining
  • Infection of the stomach with Helicobacter pylori bacteria
  • Medications such as aspirin or other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs)
  • Smoking

Less common causes are:

  • Autoimmune disorders (such as pernicious anemia)
  • Backflow of bile into the stomach (bile reflux)
  • Eating or drinking caustic or corrosive substances (such as poisons)
  • Excess gastric acid secretion (such as from stress)
  • Viral infection, especially in people with a weak immune system

Gastritis can last a short time (acute gastritis) or for months to years (chronic gastritis).

Tests vary depending on the specific cause. An X-ray of the upper digestive tract, EGD, or other tests may be advised.

The outlook depends on the cause, but is usually good.

Avoid long-term use of irritants (such as aspirin, anti-inflammatory drugs, or alcohol).

See the specific types of gastritis.

Call for an appointment with your health care provider if you develop gastritis symptoms.

kidney stones, and the complication i got from the breaking up of the kidney stones. They did the ultra waves or whatever to break them up, and said, " all should be good, you should pass them, however there is a very rare complication that can happen called renal hematoma, which is bleeding around the kidney, but don't worry the chances that you will get that are very slim." Guess who gets that. Yep. me. That was like the pain from the kidney stone times 100,000,000. i was layed out for over a month. Couldn't lift my kids, had to have my friend come help take care of me , the kids and the house. It was awful... i wouldn't wish it upon my worst enemy....well maybe on this one bitch but yea, you know what i mean.

ETA~ emotional pain, putting my first child up for adoption 11 yrs ago. Still haven't full healed from that...
