So ive seen people complain about adoption before but I didnt know much about it until recently. Ive been researching the costs of adopting a child and have found on average its between 20000 - 40000 to adopt! Thats rediculous! Why would you have to pay so much? Why would you have to pay at all I dont understand. Can someone explain it to me? Also, I tried to voluteer last week because dh had few days off so I thought it would be nice to get out of the house and help so I called a local orphanage. The lady that answered was really rude and told me I would have to talk to so and so that she was the one who handled it. I called her a couple times but she never answered and she never returned my messages...what is the deal?

I dont understand why it would cost money and especially not that much.... noone else knows about adoption?
I hate it when people don't respond. Sadly tho I don't know very much about adoption, so all I can offer is a bump!
Thanks for the bump...I hate it too!

Many times adoptive parents (particularly when you adopt a newborn) pay towards the birth parents expenses. I know my aunt and uncle had to do this when they adopted and it was awful. The birth mom has no health insurance, so they had to pay for her hospital stay and things like that. Also there are a lot of lawyer fees to get things worked out. Plus all the background checks and home studies that are done - the adoptive parents are the ones paying for those things. Another of my aunts (who is currently in the process of adopting) swears costs are so high because agencies are worried about people adopting children and using them for child trafficking. A price of $20,000-$40,000 is sure to deter anyone from that.
Interestingly enough, if you become a foster parent, and decide you want to adopt a child you are fostering, more often than not, the state will cover the adoption costs. My hubby and I are hoping one day to become foster parents and eventually adopt a child that way.
