Crybaby Kid

My son turned 4 at Christmas. He drives me nuts -- Whenever he gets in trouble or hurt he SCREAMS and crys ---- and NOT just a little..... like loud and for a long time if I let him.

I know that makes me sound heartless -- but he starts the crying -- If I tell him to stop he will --- so its not like he's hurt bad or anything - Its just for dramatic effect/attention.

Its over dumb little stuff -- his sister took his toy, or jacket inside out..... then when he does get punished its on full blast. The rule here is no crying downstairs - so if he starts it I send him to his room. He'll scream and cry all the way up the stairs and cry in his room for a LONG time -- unless I tell him to stop -- if I tell him to stop he usually will......

So any ideas on how to get him to not start in the first place?? It hurts my ears and wakes the baby up!!

I think I babied him too much and comforted him when he cried - so now he's still doing it -- only time I comfort him now (when crying) is when he's really hurt....

i'd tell him to stand in the corner for 4 minutes (since he just goes and cries in his room). if ds throws a tantrum that's what we do. or we don't acknowledge what he's whining about until he stops. it works pretty well for us. he's only 2 1/2 though so he gets a 2 minute time out. lol.

when he gets hurt you could just make it like its nothing like an oopsie daisy and have him get up and keep going like nothing is wrong. thats what i do with my 3yr old cousin if she falls i just say oh oh and say lets go and keep playing and she gets up says oh oh and doesnt even cry but if anyone goes oh are you ok or poor baby she will cry for a long time.

OMG I so wanna see what people suggest. My 2 year old is like that. I have done everything the same with her as I did with my oldest as far as babying and comforting. My oldest dd is so peacful and calm. My 2 year old, yikes man the kid cries and screams and throws some mean fits. I mean she cries all the time. Drives me crazy!
