I'm making the move to TX.... but what do I need to pack to take in the van with us and what needs to go when the Army moves us... I know the necessities need to go (clothing, toiletries, packnplays for the kids DS's bouncy seat, formula, wate. that kind of thing) Our guitars are going in the van as well... as well as a cooler of drinks and snacks

Everything else can be moved by the Army unless I'm forgetting something... I need to pack so I would appreciate advice on what I need...

I've never moved far enough away to not be able to come home and get whatever I may have forgotten...

I would take pictures with you. I would hate to lose those. Anything you can't replace.

Favorite things you don't want the packers to lose or break.  You'll also need a few pots, pans, cooking things to get you started while you wait for your stuff.

Good luck!!!!!

We don;t have any hard copy pictures except a few of my mom... those are never far from me... and the kids' baby books and photos will be going as well

I just don;t want to overload the van...

I think you have everything covered.  Growing up we always had the Army move us and we would only bring clothes, toiletries, important papers, etc... with us.  DH and I are all about DITY moves so we don't worry about waiting for anything to show up.

I'm doing all of the packing... period... and labeling and numbering all of my boxes and tubs...

As far as cooking utensils go I don;t own any so I'll buy them when I get there...

We thought about hooking a small Uhaul to our van but I'm not so sure the van can pull it... like the smallest they have cause we don;t have much

I dont know if this will help you or not,but when my x was in the navy,I always trveled at night when the kids were asleep for the night.and if I couldn't do that,I would get them up early and let them run themselves ragged before we left. If they are old enough, bring a portable DVD player for them with their fave cartoons.

And with experience on um teen moves, take EVERYTHING of sentimental value with you.I lost several things  from them moving us.I finally just started moving ourselves so that wouldn't happen.Saved money on wear and tear on our car by towing it behind the u haul.

Good Luck!!

Make sure you have everyone's Birth Certificate, Social security cards,  and any other important papers and stuff.  If I were you and maybe you are make sure you do a partial ditty.  Have you talked to housing on how long the wait is for a house on post if that is what you are looking into doing.  Other then that I think you have it covered.  I would take linens or something too.  Just in case you get a house and have to wait for the movers to get your stuff to your house.

Usually the packing company will unpack and repack for you otherwise they aren't responsible for that box.

We are making a dity move from OH to WA.. we were going to have the Army move us but since husband is home early from injury, he can make the drive with me.

I would take a portable DVD player if possible for the kids. As someone else mentioned, a few pots or pans to get you by. I was told be prepared for up to a month without your things clothing wise, take some blankets, ect.

Would we be able to tow the van with the carseats? We have an 18mo and a 1mo so we have to work around them and we had planned to start at like 1 or 2 in the morning....
