So I'm driving down the freeway at about 55-60mph with my 4 year old, in his car seat of course. Suddenly the car in front of me slams on their breaks (the truck in front of the had tires flying out of his bed) so I slammed on mine also, as well as swirved into the emergency lane to avoid an accident. As I hit the breaks, with all my might, I hear my son say, "Don't do that Mom, it hurts my neck!" He looked as if he was about to cry. After it was all said and done and we were safely out of traffic I asked him what hurt his neck. He said, "It went forward to fast, don't do that." "Honey, what went forward to fast?" "My head, it hurt my neck. Don't do it again." He just kept telling me not to do it again. He didn't like it. So had I not swirved and the big F250 (I drive a compact car) rear ended us, what would have happened? His head would have been thrown with more force, wouldn't it? If simply slamming on the breaks made his neck hurt, what would an actual acciden havet done? Scarry to think about!
What really made me think was I also had my 3 year old with me, in his rear facing seat. He never made a sound. In fact he was sleeping when it happened and barely cracked his eyes to see what happened before shutting them again.
Makes you go, huh, or it did for me! Just wish there were better ERF seats availible in the US.
Just wanted to share my story, and see what others think about it.
I'm glad the accident was avoided. I don't have an opinion about the car seat, but, it sounds like her child could have whiplash and i urge you to have him as well as yourself checked by a chiropractor =0)
With light and love
glad you and your little ones are okay! have you checked the carseat groups on here? some of those ladies might be able to help you find a rear facing one if that's what you want....
Wow! I'm glad you guys are ok, that IS scary. And I'm REALLY glad I have tiny kids who can still rf. Wow.
i was sitting at a stop light and a girl going maybe 30 rear ended me...it broke my neck in 3 different places....they told me it only takes like 5mph to break a bone. btw i had 2 of my kids with me when this happend and our ped told me that the middle is the best place for a car seat cuz it would even the force of an impact if you were rear ended.

We went to the family Dr right after it happened. He says we're both fine, but we're still taking things very easy for awhile. This was 2 days ago and he hasn't complained since, so I'm hoping the Dr is right and he's fine.
i was told from jan-may that i was fine from the wreck i was in. when we did the surgery in may thats when we found out it was broken. they say it will make your arms numb. mine never did feel numb. i had headaches and my back hurt because of an artery in my neck that was being pinched cuz of it being unstable or whatever. keep a really close eye on him. if you see any little tiny thing take him for xrays! btw i had 3 sets of xrays a ct scan and an mri....that hospital still didnt see the breaks..only a gap they said was from me...which obviously wasnt. glad you guys are ok as far as you know though. i learned though. better safe than sorry on getting checks. my chiropractor actually is the one who..really...saved my life by doing xrays and finding what was really wrong.
even if he were older and able to sit with a regular seat belt he would have had the SAME reaction...its good tho that yall were ok
MY now 3 year old was 22months and RFing when my hubby was tboned, he said WEEEEE the whole time and the van was hit on the back passenger wheel well, he was behind the driver. I know for a fact that he would've been injured if he had been FFing, even in that same seat.
