Hey ladies! I need some help. I want to change my birth control. I'm currently on the Depo shot. I recently was reading on WebMD about some of the bad side effects: depression, loss of sex drive, hair loss. I have all of those. For the longest time I've thought that it was just due to me having cancer. I know the depression could be to a point but the hair loss shouldn't be. I haven't had chemo in months. As far as the sex drive I WANT to have sex with my husband I just can't get on the mood and it's driving us both crazy!! I have an appointment next week to get my next shot and I will not be getting it.
I also do not want to go on Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo because I was on that when I got pregnant with my youngest.
If anyone has any input on IUD's I'd appreciate it. I'm thinking I'd like something longterm because I don't want to have to worry about getting pregnant until I'm cancer free. We do want to try for one more other wise I'd just have my tubes tied. But I'm going to kick cancers ass and try for my girl damn it!!
Thanks ladies =]

I'm on paragard, I like it because there are no hormones, so you won't experience those side effects. It also lasts up to 10 years but you can get pregnant as soon as you have it removed. I've had some bleeding since I got it put in last week, and mild cramping for a couple days, but other than that, no issues at all.
I had mirena for 16 months and got every side effect. I am pregnant and the mirena has grown into the tissue linning of my uterus, but here is a bump.
i have the Paragard. its the nonhormonal IUC. its AWESOME. lol.
the hormones in other bc gives me headaches moodswings bloating loss of libidoo... they were just miserable.
i have had the IUC for over 6 years total..i never had any issues with it.
the 1st time i got it it hurt for like 30 seconds. i had no cramping or spotting at all..bu the first two months periods - the cramps were really bad. but then after that it was fine.
the second time i got it i had spotting for the first two months...no major cramping and after those first couple months i have had no more spotting.
my hubbs cant feel the strings. they soften up after a couple of days and they kind hide behind the cervix. i also self check after each period and they are always there where they are supposed to be.
i have had gREAT experience with the IUC. i dont know about the Mirena - but i hear bad things in general and my OBs have always said that patients have very very few problems wth the Paragrd. they said its the best bc because of the lack of user error and lack of hormones.
I had cancer too. (6 months chemo--I've been cancer-free for 5 years)
I wouldn't in a million years put a hormone in my body. Especially after having cancer you are especially vulnerable to every little thing that goes in. We used Natural Family Planning. It's clean, natural, and is everything your system needs after a bout with all those chemo chemicals.
Well, I have the paraguard and I would say it's great as long as you are not prone to getting pregnant easily. The cramping and heavier bleeding wasn't a problem for me and I was very happy with it......unfortunately, the strings disappeared six months ago, dr said it was fine, and now I have an ultrasound on monday.......but I think that it was just a freak thing that would happen to me lol. I would actually still highly recommend it. BTW I did read on a medical website though that women with a small uterus or more likely than others to get pregnant with it! Keep that in mind
