So today I'm driving to the library and a guy comes up to my car window and asks if I wanna donate money for some organization, with just a title on his bucket. I don't know if I'm mean or whatever, but I never donate to things that I don't know what they mean. I mean I've seen scammers and thieves and I'm very weary of just dropping money in any ol' bucket. I do donate money to organizations like AFA, Red cross, st Jude, salvation army etc but I'm too weary to drop my hard earned money into anyones bucket ya know?

I was thinking that maybe that should hand out pamphlets about their organization instead and tell were we can go to donate if we want or a website maybe so we can make sure they are legit and not just taking our money. -kwim. Do you agree?

Do you donate to just anyone?

I agree with you, there's a lot of con artists out there, I don't give any money to anyone unless I feel led to.  Anyone can get a can or a bucket and collect money.

Nope, but if someone comes up to your car window, the chances are high that they simply want a beer money donation--

no proof, no donation---I won't be scammed. I donate privately to my own causes, mostly for cancer and animal welfare.

I do not donate to people on the side of the road, ninety nine percent of the time.

I agree with you, but living in the city everyone asks for money. So I think Im just used to giving it. I feel like giving is enough & I can only hope it goes to the right place.

i agree.  i only donate to organizations that i'm able to research first.  i have several that i donate to, but i do not give money to people soliciting donations on the street, even if they claim to be part of a group that i usually support.  i don't think it's rude... i just want that money going to cause i intend it for, than some guy running a scam.

The ones that REALLY piss me off are the ones that wait for you to stop at the stoplight, run up and wash your window then DEMAND PAYMENT.

I donate when i can.  But their are several groups in Southern IL who use a 3 way stop to collect donations..  One of the roads is a county highway and very busy. Well they stand in the middle of the intersection to collect.  They even have kids out there collecting.  I think thats a very dangerous thing to with kids.  I have never stopped an gave a donation there and if they ask I tell them why.  Keep the  kids out of the roads eventually one is gonna end up getting hit..  I'v seen a whole troop of boyscouts out there.

In florida it was always the same Black Church.. It was African American something or other. They were always on the street by the biggest intersection in town, knocking on windows at the red lights asking for money. They never say what it's for, and I usually would throw in some change.

THEN one day we were at the light and some guy had a dog in his truck which barked at the guy who went to knock on his window. The window where the dog sat was open. The  guy freaked, and the man in the truck told him not to worry, his dog is friendly, he just barks at new people.. the other guy just went off saying that he'll kill the dog, that guy better not let his dog get out of the truck.. and was using foul language.

I have never donated again, I've made sure none of my friends/family ever donate again. It was awful, I had half a mind to call the cops on him. Don't beg for donations, then go and act like that. The other guy he was with was backing him up. Finally the light changed though.
