Breastfeeding a 15 month old?

I was on the 16 and Pregnant chat a few nights ago and two girls had the nerve to tell me that I was "a sick, nasty, pervert" that was "raising my son to be a wussy" that "he wouldn't potty train till he was 10" and that "I needed to be reported to Child Protective Services".

What is wrong with people these days that they don't understand that it is completely natural and recomended till at least 2 years! I was so so upset by these comments because I have busted my butt to nurse my son for so long and I am very proud of myself.

How do you ladies feel about this?

They were probably young and lots of young girls are educated on breastfeeding and that sort of thing, I know I wasn't. I knew it was good for the baby and all that stuff when I got pregnant but didnt know much about it and now I'm a BFing advocate. They are just probably uneducated about it and naive

Was there an age difference between you and these girls?   Many feel that way unfortunately.   I would just ignore that type of stupidity and do right by your child.

I agree with this even though I don't breastfeed.

Well I am 20...I had my son 2 weeks after I turned 19. One of the girls was older then me and the other was like 17 or 18. I realize they were just ignorant of the facts...but it was disturbing that society views breastfeeding as "dirty" or "perverted" just because our culture is soaked in sex and can't see breasts for their actual purpose. That is awesome Mcks0820! I am actually peer counseling at a local crisis pregnancy center about breastfeeding and in school to become a nurse and then Lactation consultant!

That is awesome! lol I've had some girls that I know get pregnant and stuff and they like try not to talk to me about it because if they ask questions about bfing I wind up going into this rant about all the benefits and stuff lol, I can't help it

Haha me too! I don't bash women for formula feeding but whenever someone is undecided I make them my project lol! It's really something I wish every woman would at least try!!

My dd is 2 and 1/2 nurses on occasion (when she asks I let her) and he has been potty trained for a couple months now..lol. She wears panties all day and then I put a diaper/pull up on her at night just because her small bladder cant always handle holding it all night) She is also a very tough girl. She was bottle fed as a baby but her brother is breastfed he is 13 months and still going strong :-)

Its stupid, ignore it, and consider the source. BTW WTG on nursing for so long, I am still nursing my 19 month old!

But now I have come to believe that the whole world is an enigma, a harmless enigma that is made terrible by our own mad attempt to interpret it as though it had an underlying truth.

That is awesome to hear!! I know that my son will potty train and is not being raised to be a wuss lol I just could not believe that someone could actually think that! Good for you for nursing so long!

Crazy! I still occassionally BF my 25month old. She's weaning herself though so I'm sure we'll be done soon. They just don't understand the benefits for the baby and the bonding you get from it. Also I'm sure they are just so used to breasts as being sexual things. They don't realize they have another (better) purpose
