Have you ever used the symptom checker on WebMd? I clicked on sore throat and one of the questions was "is it made worse by swallowing poison or chemicals?" WTF? lol I am thinking if I drank some Drano or something, I might be able to figure out why my throat hurt without their help.

Maybe your sinuses were stuffy, and you were breathing through your mouth? That can cause dry, sore throat.
