I have a 2 day clincial coming up in like 3 or 4 weeks. I have a few competency check offs to complete and once i do i go to the clincal site for 2  8 hour shifts.

HOWEVER i'm really worried about it. I know when i took my phlebotomy clicnial there was someone there who "took over" the minute i ran into trouble, or there if i had a question or got confused.

Will the same happen at a CNA clinical at the nursing home? Will someone be there when i'm giving a bath or feeding or doing ROM? Because quite frankly i am scared shitless about it. Also, how do you get over the "smells"? I think i SHOULD be ok..as smells from other foul smelling children do not bother me but its a concern i have. I know coloscopy bags really smell as do GI bleeds so i'm worried abotu having to run into one of those.

Unless you are going to harm the patient via your mistake or are doing something abusive, they will not 'take over'. They will observe, correct you and then you will redo the skill.

but someone will be there with me all the time? I won't be alone with a patient in case i make a mistake, right? Like in phlebotomy if you entered the vein and missed they stepped in and redirected the needle (with my hand still there) but if i still coudn't find it they would take over and find it and do the draw and then tell me what i did wrong and have me do the next one.

Like i suck at making a occupied bed. I cannot get it right no matter how much i practice. they passed me on the skill even though i never really got it because i know the concept of what i am suppose to do. They said it takes a lot of practice that you will get on the job..and they understand that when you are doing state testing.

I know feeding really well and i got ROM down..grooming i think i am good on except maybe for shaving a patient (as i will be really nervous) I mean i KNOW all the skills its just doing them correctly 100% of the time that is my hangup.

did anyone get hit by a patient? What happens if you do gag?  I guess i'm just afraid of not passing the clinical..i see this 5 page clinical checkoff paper and i'm seriously about to panic about it. Like i cannot remember all the supplies i need for every single skill. I know the water temperatures but the supplies I ALWAYS get messed up. GAH!!!!

Some one will be with you at all times. They have to be with you until you become a full CNA and then when you are a full CNA then some one will be with you for at least a week maybe two weeks. Every time I started a new job as a CNA some one was with me even after being a CNA for almost ten years. In most nursing homes you are working with some one anyways and if you are new then you can always ask for help if you are willing to help them (team work).

Depends on where you are doing clinicals, if its a very busy place, you might get left alone for a while. I cant believe they stepped in helped you like that as a phlebotomist, how do they expect you to learn if they fix everything for you? The only reason I say that is because I am a Phlebotomist and we get students like this all the time, (ones that the teachers and others helped, and they dont have a clue) Not saying your one of those!

they didn't fix everything. They only stepped in when i absoulety couldn't fix it. THey also stepped in when the patietns started getting ansty.  I wasn't one of those students. Everyone messes up and everyone gets extremely anxious when they do. At least i do.

Im sorry Im just used to getting those students that thing its all easy peasy. and if they mess up we will just automatically fix it for them.  You will do fine with the smells, just try not to breathe thru your mouth when you are around GI bleeds, they do tend to make you want to gag. I've also been hit by a few patients lol. they usually have warnings on the door or above the bed telling you that can be aggressive
