My 5 year old and my 1 year old have been coughing for over a week now.  The 1 year old has asthma, so I up her breathing treatments.  The cough was a dry cough the first day, but then turned to a real loose cough.  I'm just wondering if it could be walking pneumonia, or just a cough.  They have no fever at all.

You can't know without taking them to the doctor whether its something like bronchitis, pneumonia, etc.  I will say that my son had walking pneumonia 2 weeks ago and he was running high fevers with it (up to 104.2).  He was a VERY sick child but the thing was, he was NOT coughing.  He was lethargic, breathing rapidly and had a very rapid heartbeat.  It being a junky cough is probably a good indication that its not pneumonia, but I would call the doctor and see if they want to see them, especially w/ your younger one having asthma.

You wont know for sure until you take them to the Dr.   Better safe than sorry.

I would get them to a doctor just to be sure.

It sounds like a viral brochitis to me beacause of the lack of a fever.  However, even if that's all it is they can turn bacterial very fast.  I would probably take them in especially the child w/asthma.

Thanks ladies.  I plan on calling the doctor's office when they open, I just wanted to be sure that I wasn't being paranoid, which is usually the case with me.

It is going around. We have had the same thing, and my friend in PA just got over it...seems like everyone has it.

If you are concerned just go to the doc. If it is bronchitis  it has potential to turn into pneumonia, so it might be a good idea.

Always take an asthmatic in with a cough.  they can turn on a dime it only takes a day for them to degrade. Do they have fevers?
